My kids' grade school hires like a teacher a year from Benedictine. And in almost every case the teacher gets pregnant and quits within 2 years.
I think Butker had the right target audience.

Probably.
I for one don't share that particular viewpoint, but I don't give a fuck if that's his viewpoint! I don't care that he said what he did. I'm a little baffled at how an NFL placekicker with no other notable academic or socially progressive accomplishments gets invited to be a commencement speaker, but that's really not my business or concern either.
I think people get way too angry over symbolism and speech that they don't like. I personally wouldn't kneel during the National Anthem either, but I didn't go out of my mind batshit when other people decided to do that. Why would I?? It's a symbolic gesture. If anything I was annoyed by people who kneeled and thought that a symbolic gesture was the same as taking actual action toward the problem.
The thing abut the First Amendment is that at some point we will all either see something, hear something, or see someone doing something that we don't like. That's part of the deal. an unimportant placekicker said something that many people don't agree with. So fucking what!!?? Just shrug and move on.Last edited by xubrew; 05-20-2024 at 10:46 AM.

I thought his speech was tone deaf and complete batshit, and had I been a female sitting there who had just worked my butt off for 4 years and paid the tuition, I would have thought it even more batshit. However, I think it's great he has the ability to say stuff like that (without persecution), and for others to think and say its complete batshit.
Heck even the benedictine nuns thought it was batshit. Butker may want to switch religions--it wasn't "Catholic" at all, unless He is a pre second Vatican Catholic I guess.Last edited by Xville; 05-20-2024 at 11:08 AM.

Dude - you need to get out more often. This quote is from Biden's daughter's diary:
"Hyper-sexualized @ a young age. What is this due to? Was I molested. I think so – I can’t remember specifics but I do remember trauma – I remember not liking the woolzacks house; I remember somewhat being sexualized with [a cousin]; I remember having sex with Friends @ a young age; showers w/my dad (probably not appropriate). Being turned on when I wasn’t supposed to be.”

Toss out that accusation is at best wreckless and at worst reputation destroying libel. Has Biden been charged? Convicted? Calling someone a molester is near the worst label place on someone and should never be used callously. If one thing not liking a political party, it is a whole other thing using that label. Do better!

Speaking of commencements, really enjoyed my youngest this weekend at Miami U. Can’t believe how much they have changed since I graduated. Three events in three days.
Now let’s compare the speakers I heard vs Biden’s message.
Miami brought in a 1996 grad who is now CEO at Chipotle. What positive message for recent grads.
A few key points:
- Personal responsibility.
- Be proud of your country and be proud of the United States.
- Thank the people who helped you along the way.
- Stay in touch with friends and professors.
- Write personal letters after interviews not email.
- You will make a difference if you apply yourself. Regardless of the size or scope.
Also the student president did a bang up job. She and the VP were the first black representatives who were elected together. Obviously she was very proud of the fact because they should be. Rest of speech was also inspiring. No excuses or blame.
Now compare listening to Biden. Is this the 1960’s? Where in the hell is the inspiration. Yes, we still have work to do, but why treat people like victims at graduation? I’m sure it wasn’t all doom and gloom but night and day from what I heard from the two speakers.
