Can’t say I’m too disappointed with the results because that’s the way Ohio has done business for the last 100 years. From the results, there will be a time when both parties benefit and a time each will be pissed.

Now can we stop with the August special elections!

It will be interesting to see what happens with the abortion amendment in November. I think it’s too extreme, potentially allowing abortion up to the moment of birth. Sorry, but that’s wrong.

By the way. Kind of interesting that Bobbie lives in a state where a simple majority cannot amend its Constitution, but he’s commenting on Ohio.

I am glad Issue 1 was voted down but I have a feeling we will get an extreme abortion amendment for the left. If it allows abortions up until birth it will be a hard no for me.

Except it doesn’t. The ballot language can be found here from the attorney general: https://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/...nd-Safety.aspx

It directly permits prohibitions on abortion after fetal viability.

If you want to blame anyone for this "gotcha" election, blame Frank LaRose and the Ohio Legislature. They were perfectly eager to get donations from out-of-state donors like Uehlein out of Illinois, I might add.

I'm sure the Republicans will thank the voters later on once they find a future issue that requires the will of the Ohio voters and not a heavily (and illegally) gerrymandered state legislature.

“But in no case may such an abortion be prohibited if in the professional judgment of the pregnant patient’s treating physician it is necessary to protect the pregnant patient’s life or health.” (emphasis mine).

Had it ended at “life”, I’d see no issue. However, “health” is rather vague and would correctly include mental health. If you don’t think a woman who wants to end the pregnancy after viability will have any trouble finding a physician (maybe at Planned Parenthood?) willing to say it’s necessary for her mental health, and therefore cannot be prohibited, you’re incredibly naive.
