    Kerem Kanter made the Big East Honor Roll.


    NEW YORK – For the second week in a row, St. John’s guard Shamorie Ponds has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week. In a pair of wins, he averaged 35.0 points, including a 44-point effort which set the all-time scoring record at Carnesecca Arena. Georgetown’s Jamorko Pickett has been chosen BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after helping the Hoyas to a 1-1 week, including a win over Seton Hall.

    BIG EAST Player of the Week
    Shamorie Ponds, St. John’s, G, So. – Ponds averaged 35.0 points in leading St. John’s to a 79-75 win at No. 1 Villanova and an 86-78 victory against Marquette. At Villanova, the sophomore had 26 points, five rebounds and five assists. In Saturday’s game against Marquette, Ponds’ 44 points broke the single game scoring record at Carnesecca and tied for the fifth most points in a BIG EAST game. For the week, he also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, shot 55.8 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from 3-point range.

    BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
    Jamorko Pickett, Georgetown, F, Fr. – Pickett averaged 12.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. In an 83-80 win over Seton Hall on Saturday, he contributed 18 points, three rebounds and two blocked shots. For the season, Pickett is averaging 9.4 points and 3.8 rebounds. He has scored in double figures in four of the last seven games.

    BIG EAST Honor Roll
    Kelan Martin, Butler, F, Sr.
    Averaged 32.0 points in games against Xavier and Villanova. Finished with 34 points, seven rebounds and four assists in an overtime loss to Xavier (98-93) and had 30 points in a defeat at Villanova (86-75).

    Marcus Foster, Creighton, G, Sr.
    Averaged 29.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week where both games were decided by one point. His winning basket at DePaul (76-75) gave him 2,000 points for his career.

    Marin Maric, DePaul, C, Gr.
    Averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Shot 68.2 percent from the field and 91.7 percent from the foul line for the two games.

    Jalen Brunson, Villanova, G, Jr.
    Averaged 27.5 points in a 1-1 week. In a win over Butler (86-75), he had 27 points. Made 16-of-18 from the foul line in the two games.

    Kerem Kanter, Xavier, C, Sr.
    Averaged 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and shot 71.4 percent from the field (15-of-21) in a 2-0 week. Had 22 points in an overtime win at Butler (98-93).
