In the case of Garcia specifically, what I don't get (and what no one else is talking about) is how there ended up being two conflicting court orders. One ordering him deported, and another shielding him from deportation. That seems odd. That needs fixing. In my opinion that should have been fixed before any action against him specifically was taken.
260 people were deported right along with him. No one seems to have an issue with 259 of them. Just him. So, all this stuff about wanting to let criminals in to the country, and let them stay here...NO!!!! THAT'S NOT WHAT THE ISSUE IS!!! It's in this ONE particular case, he was denied due process and THAT'S what they have an issue with. If he comes back, and the conflicting court orders get untangled, and it's decided he once again needs to be deported, then see ya!
What also smells bad is that Trump has tried to claim that he is a member of MS13. My current knowledge of gang culture is limited. There was a time in my career when I was at a university where several of the students I worked with had ties to gangs, but for the last eight years...not so much. I do still keep up with a couple of people, one in particular, who had been in a gang, managed to cut ties while in college, and even played pro for a little while, and now works to help try and get youths out of gangs. He's an expert. I'm not. But what I do know about MS13 is that they are very overt. They're not the Illuminati with a bunch of secret symbols that only high level scholars can decipher. They're more like the Hells Angels. If someone is a member, you know it within seconds. They're more likely to have MS13 tattooed across their face than some obscure symbols tattooed on their fingers. And I don't think those were even MS13 symbols at all. The skull almost definitely did not mean the number 3. So, that was, at best, a BIIIIG stretch.
The other thing I found strange was the claim by Stephen Miller that the gang that was persecuting him in El Salvador doesn't exist anymore. I don't know what gang he's talking about, but that's VERY odd because the 18th Street absolutely still exists. If they are not persecuting him, then isn't that a pretty sure sign that he's NOT an MS13 member??? I'll be honest. At first I thought he was (fair or unfair I didn't see why he'd be wearing a Bulls hat if he wasn't. It's the horns from the Bulls insignia, BTW). Then I wasn't sure. Then when their evidence was his fingers I really wasn't sure. And now I'm guessing that he probably isn't even in Ms13 at all and likely never was.
So, the measures being taken to get violent criminals that are here illegally out of the country are good!! No one with any common sense should be able to argue against that. But in this ONE PARTICULAR CASE...did they make a mistake?? I think it's fair to say that they may have, and saying that they did DOES NOT mean I don't want the deportations of illegal gang members who commit violent crimes to continue.
Law enforcement makes good faith mistakes all the time. They arrest the wrong person or charge the wrong person. But, so long as the charges are promptly dropped and the person is promptly released no one loses faith in the system. To make a mistake and NOT release that person is going to cause people to lose their shit...AND IT SHOULD!
