What is commonly missed in this sort of conversation is separating the MAN from the POLICIES of the PARTY. There are a lot of people like me who can't stand the guy. Frankly, I have serious concerns with people who actually like him. This is what matters.

See the problem is what will you also get for voting for Trump. Policies are one thing but those policies could have also been implemented by anyone other than said Trump yet the RNC continues to want to parade around a guy who isn’t well liked outside of his base. From mocking a disabled person, to his questionable business dealings, Russia, election interference, Stop the Steal, etc trouble seems to follow this guy wherever he goes. Yet he takes no accountability. I also don’t appreciate his lying and deflection of questions given to him throughout his interviews making it hard to know what exactly you will get with another 4 years under Trump. Project 2025 anyone? The first four things you listed I can get behind though I thought Mexico was going to pay for the border wall? Pro fossil fuels should also include increase funding to find an alternative energy solution in the near future. Fossil fuels aren’t good for the environment or our health and we really should be doing better to find alternative solutions that work. School choice is more of a way for rich families to find alternative ways to not be put into general public schools with kids who have major issues to defund public less wealth schools. More of a rich vs poor agenda.

I personally have decided not to vote for either candidate. Both parties could have nominated better candidates but have decided that we need to relive the last eight years for another 4 years. I’ll be interested to see who wins but we won’t be Making America Great Again or Building Back Better with either candidate. The past say 24 years with both parties holding office spells this out.

I agree and the Dems did the same thing after losing another seat on the Supreme Court.

School choice——I pay for my kids to go to school that fits our family’s ideals and culture, I also pay for failing beuracratic bloated crap schools to be funded that my kids do not attend.

Give families both rich and poor the opportunity to send their kids where they want to.

My two questions would be 1.) why are you against the free market in this situation? 2.) why should my tax dollars go to failing teachers and failing schools, while lining the pockets of bloated public school administrations that do nothing to improve?

Yeah...not really. Most people probably think of the electoral college being something other than what it actually is, and certainly something other than what it initially was. Presently, it really isn't a college at all. It's a virtual point system. Since many states have laws dictating how the electors have to vote, it perhaps isn't even a virtual point system anymore, but an actual one. That's not what it was initially.

I actually don't have a huge issue with it. There are things about it that I think are beneficial. I wouldn't go so far to say that it's "what makes our government work." The current format is nothing like what was initially laid out, and many who were instrumental in coming up with it did not want a so-called "winner take all" system when states first started to do that. I do find it ironic when people say it was a work of genius by the founders. You know who strongly disagreed with that?? Many of the founders!!

The initial main intent was actually to make it so the regular every day people did not directly vote for the president. They didn't believe every day people were privileged enough or knowledgeable enough to be voting for the president. And...when you look at much of the electorate today...you gotta kind of ask yourself if they weren't entirely wrong about that!

Yunno, if we had the electoral college, like...the actual original idea of the electoral college, Trump and Harris would almost assuredly not be candidates, and the last two presidents would never have been candidates either, much less the president.

Electoral college is by no means perfect but imo it’s the best way for our government to function. What I would propose is an overhaul of our primary system. That’s what I believe to be a disaster and why we have had horrible options for many cycles now.

The Electoral College isn't even a college. It hasn't been for quite some time. That's kind of my point. People say that it was genius, and that the founders were such visionaries, and that we should never even discuss changing it.

Well, we HAVE changed it! (at least practically) It doesn't even remotely resemble a college anymore. It's not like we vote for electors that get together to elect the president the way the College of Cardinals elects the pope. That's not how it works anymore. Not even close. Many of the founders came to not like the electoral college very shortly after it was implemented.

I'm not even saying I think it should be changed. I'm just saying I'm completely open to the idea. I also don't agree that anyone who says they don't like it is somehow crazy or misinformed. I think it's at least worth discussing.

Curious why that school is failing? I am assuming we are talking about a public school? Are you saying they are failing because of test scores? Graduation rate? My hometown had one public school and one private school. The public school has seen a substantial decrease in state test scores over the past several years due to wealthy families enrolling their kids in private, online schools or homeschool. Not really a coincidence that this will happen when you remove a majority of high test scoring kids out of public school district. Having friends who did this, they said that there are a lot of behavior problems in these schools that the teachers can’t really teach and there is no beuracratic laws such as state testing and intervention that take away from learning. I was unaware nonpublic schools didn’t have to take state tests. Probably why the national average has gone down so much. Think school choice looks nice on paper but isn’t practical to the mass population.

I don't know ALL of the intricacies of why public schools are failing in my state (Kentucky). It's certainly not due to funding.... I do know there are a lot of issues, and it's not due to "wealthy families." Many families where I send my kids to schools are by no means wealthy and some I would consider quite poor. However, they believe in the school I send my kids to, and many like them, for many different reasons. They also receive assistance from the archdiocese, families like myself and other sources.

I have many friends who are public school teachers (because they get paid more) who send their kids to private schools because the education in the public school is horrible. There is no "education," teachers are required to read off a page every single day...its regurgiating whatever the KEA decides they want. There's no discussion, no debate, no thinking for yourself being taught within these school buildings. That in my mind is a problem.

In regards to behavior issues, then why would you not be for getting the ones that want to, out of that situation with some financial assistance? Public schools are not being held unaccountable for their issues, neither are their parents, that needs to change and I believe the only way to do that is in a free market system, and the spicket on those failing schools run dry.
