I heard the rule would apply to all student athletes, regardless of whether or not they are on scholarship. That only makes sense to me when you are talking about providing food while traveling away from the university. I'm not sure it makes sense to provide unlimited meals to non-scholarship athletes while on campus.

I have the unfortunate distinction of being the author of this thread and to a degree I'll now have an even more unfortunate distinction of "ending" the thread.... at least along the lines of its original purpose. The gentleman who suggested to me that Semaj was "debating" has since informed me that the debate is over.

Over the past 7-10 days Semaj has been going back and forth, evaluating whether or not this was the right move. In that period of time he came to the conclusion that now was the time. He will be signing with an agent shortly and begin a more formal approach to preparing for the upcoming draft.

What about take-out food. I can see a potential problem of athletics taking out food and giving it to their non-athletic friends, esp. if these friends are part of the group travelling with the team, such as members of the band or cheerleaders, etc. These athletes can always say that they cannot finish all the food.

So this pretty much ensures he's coming back.

I think he has a good shot at making it in the NBA, however I think he picked the wrong year and time to come out. Looking like an early 2nd rounder. Wish him nothing but the best

The band gets plenty of money to eat on. The A10 and NCAA tourney is where I made my beer money for the home stretch of the semester. No greater feeling than on the bus ride back to the hotel the director passing out $100 dollar bills for the next few days of meals.

Not to say that I am jealous about this, or have any hard feelings, but.......as a non-scholarship student athlete at X back in the dark days of the late 1970's, I was happy to get a meal paid for on the Saturday's we traveled, and getting a hotel room paid for when participating in the NCAA tourney at the end of the year. I think I ate in the dining hall maybe 3 times in 4 years, and I'm pretty sure I paid for those meals out of my own pocket. Heck, I even paid for my own shoes and all my own practice gear. That's just the way it was for most sports back then. Budgets for sports where not s priority at the U back then.
