Semaj Christon – Possible Junior Campaign

This is one screwed up set of rules. But I guess Semaj must remove himself by tomorrow to remain eligible to play for X.
It seems that "legally" only Mack can contact pro teams on his behalf up till that point, and they have some sort of NBA advisory committee that would have sent Semaj an evaluation of his potential today.

It's confusing, but that 4/15 deadline only applies to prospects who have actually filled out the paperwork to declare eligibility for the Draft. Semaj has not done so (as far as I know). All he did was release a statement to the media that he was entering the draft. For NBA/NCAA purposes, that announcement was irrelevant. As a result, Semaj is not required to withdraw his name because there's nothing to withdraw. He can submit the paperwork to formally enter the draft until 4/27.

I don't understand what benefit there is to declaring prior to the 4/15 deadline unless there is some benefit to being on the pro scouts' radar screen a bit longer.

There are some things I know- from two different sources- but still a couple of items to clean up. "Today" might have better be stated as "Very, very, very soon", but am still looking at a good news announcement.

There was a meeting between the parties last Saturday. Best I can disclose at this point.

Mack's getting a bunch more money, Semaj is staying or both. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Mack was pretty explicit in his quote to Shannon, which I am assuming he gave late in the day Saturday, that we should not get our hopes up ... and even if Maj's status has changed, Mack seems to hint that it doesn't make much sense to announce that before April 27 ...

"April 27 is the final drop dead date. You're very wise to keep all your options open (until then)," Mack said. "At the same time, I wouldn't be waiting on pins and needles if you're a Xavier fan thinking he's going to play for us next year. He's fully committed in my mind of being an NBA player. I'm extremely supportive of him and he knows that."

Pretty much everything from that article should be taken with a grain of salt.

He's not going to say, "Xavier fans, keep your eyes open. There will be some exciting news very shortly."

So how early are we expecting this news? I want to make some bets with friends that he returns

Reading that article one does get a clear sense of what "declaring" oneself for the draft (which is sure seems Semaj did) actually means and what are the consequences. It may be that he has set up a situation where he has to remove himself by tomorrow, or be trapped.
There is also a narrow 5 day window to request (in writing I think) an evaluation by the pro committee on April 9th, and they give their answer today... and then you back out by tomorrow.
Confusing.
