I don't think I would wish that delusional fan base on any head coach. I love how much of a mess that program is right now.

This is not the surprise of the century.
I have no idea who UK wants, but John C. has done all he can do at Memphis.

I think he's still got one more step to take. With #1,2 and 3 in the 2009 recruiting class in the fold, I think he might just stick around to see how that turns out.

I was thinking in terms of where he could take the program -- not the team. The Memphis fan base does not extend beyond the metropolitan area, and that isn't going to change.

An Orlando TV station is reporting Donovan has already accepted the job. For UK's sake, let's hope he doesn't back out in a couple days.

Donovan to UK could be why Anthony Grant hasn't jumped on the Alabama job. I think he'd go to Florida if anywhere.

XU GLow - I hope you are correct - just imagine - tonight at 4:30 they welcome Donovan onto the floor at Memorial Colliseum in front of a huge crowd (CP reports people are heading there now), the Cats fans have a terffic weekend beating their chests about how great it is to be a Wildcat, Monday they come to the office and gloat to their SEC rivals and Lousiville. Flying higher than the plane that is bringing Donovan in.
Then at 4:30 Monday, another presser - "I'm sorry, but I will NOT be able to accept the Kentucky job, we just learned my wife is deathly allergic to bluegrass, so we will be heading back to Florida. Sorry for the inconvenience" Cat's Pause would absolutely go bonkers.
Thats quality entertainment right there, Then Tuesday the SEC rivals and Louisvilel fans can get back with a "and you were saying?"
ETA: The funny part of it is, the UK fans - particularly those on Cats Pause - are the first ones to ask "Why does the media act like we are delusional whiny crybabies?" They also don't get why those ignorant fans (their words) from other schools are so giddy at watching their struggles.

Sporting News staff reports
University of Florida coach Billy Donovan will resign as Gators head basketball coach and take the position at Kentucky vacated by Billy Gillispie, a source close to the Kentucky basketball program tells the Fox television affiliate in Orlando.
Donovan led the Gators to back-to-back NCAA Tournament titles in 2006 and 2007. He was courted for the Kentucky job two years ago but turned it down at that time. He also flirted with becoming the head coach of the Orlando Magic after the 2007 championship run but abruptly changed his mind and returned to the Gators.
Kentucky scheduled a 4:30 p.m. ET press conference Friday to announce a change in coaching at UK.

My question is: How does this affect Xavier in recruiting? We've gone head to head with UK on both Duncan and Kenny...so they are a rival for some guys.

I've heard that Donovan is the man. I doubt UK would have fired Gillispie if they did not have a coach lined up - you'd think they would have learned from last time.

The Donovan reports are bogus, he didn't resign at UF and per cbssports.com headline he's not leaving.

Donovan has come out with a quote that says he's committed to Florida. Who the hell knows what's gonna happen. I would wager they go after Calipari hard.

You might have to think about that if you are Calipari. I'm not sure that I would take it, but I would give it some thought.
In the end whoever takes that job is going to have to want to be in the limelight or they are going to hate it.

Which just doesn't sound like Sean to me. I mean, the UK fan base is just insane. I've been around it my whole life. I'm pretty much right in the middle of Louisville, Indiana and Kentucky and UK has the craziest fans. They make IU fans look logical which takes a lot.

A buddy of mine at work threw this out there today...what about Thad? Do you think he would take it...do you think UK would want him.
Personally, I think the book is out on him...he's a great recruiter, but can't coach his way out of a paper bag. Oh, and he's also a carpet-bagging scumbag.

Does Kentucky have any recruits that we can peel off? The coaching change at Indiana worked well for us last year. I wouldn't mind another windfall.

I think they have a good not great class coming in, but I know nothing about em. I think that was another reason for the grumblings coming from Lexington. The recruiting was not looking great for them in the future as well. Well, at least in terms of the rivals and scouts of the world.

I think Kentucky is in trouble. They chased out a coach in only 2 years (Billy probably deserved it, but still).

Not only did they chase him out in two years, but they are not going to honor the buyout. That can't help when finding a new coach. What a grinder.
In related news, the smile on Tubby's face looks genuine. Happy to get out of Dodge and Minnesota is happy to have him.
I guess this dispels the racial angle on Tubby Smith's departure. The expectations at Kentucky are an equal opportunity destroyer.

You know, the natives here in Columbus seem to be getting restless with Thad here in Columbus. I would not be surprised to see that carpetbagger check into moving to Lexington where basketball is king. It has to be his dream job. Hell, everywhere else he's gone that's been his story.

Very disturbing info re: BCG's player relationships including...
— Coach told Jodie Meeks in a number of games to stop shooting and decried him for his selfishness, even during his 54 point performance in Knoxville. He told Meeks he should quit on a number of occasions and even threatened to kick him off the team in his last game ever, in South Bend during the NIT.
— At halftime of one game, he forced a player to sit in a bathroom stall with the door closed during the entire break because he said he couldnt stand to look at him.
— On more than one occasion, when a young player went into his office to ask for advice on how he could get better, he returned from the office having been berated by the coach and crying as he returned to Wildcat Lodge.
— On one road trip, a player who had been injured but was deemed to be too “soft” by the Coach was told to walk to the hotel from the arena, and only after teammates said that they would be get off the bus and walk with him, was he allowed back on.
— On another road trip, a player who felt the criticism was so strong that he locked himself in a room crying, while the team bus waited outside.

Sadly the would have tolerated this behavior if BG had been making Elite 8's and Final Fours.

Were these college kids or CYO players. Can't imagine what they would have done if Knight was there coach.
