View Full Version : The average Pitt fan is pretty dumb

I've been reading the Pitt boards for the past couple of days, and I have to say, the people on those boards aren't very knowledgeable. I won't go into detail about all the stupid stuff I've read, but there is one prevailing theme that I get a kick out of. For some reason, they think we can't shoot- especially from the outside. One thread that I recently read even suggests that they should go to a zone because they don't think we can shoot well from 3. We could only wish that they would play a zone defense against us.

Its not that hard to look up our stats and see that, as a team, we shoot 40% from behind the arc. Redford and Raymond would have a field day against a zone defense.

Here are some of the boards I've looked at.

Agreed.

I've visited the message boards of our opponents all year. I hate to say it, but the most intelligent posters come from the Duke boards.

Yeah, on top of being the most knowledgeable, the Duke boards were the most courteous as well.

Yes.

I remember one poster commenting on how it might be better to schedule better opponents for neutral site games. Six posters responded factually on how good this X team would be this year.

OK, I know I said that I wouldn't post specifics, but this one is too funny to leave alone:

(from Rivals):

don't want to jinx, but feel really good about the X game, give the points Reply

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
anything can happen, X is a good team, but Pitt should dominate this game.

I just don't think the teams are that close.

what is Xaviers "signiture win" this year ? Pitt deserves this game, they are focused and healthy.

the ok. state win was much more impressive than X win over wisconsin. Ok state was dangerous. only 2 losses in last ten games were at oklahoma and missouri. they had beaten oklahoma and texas.

the long suffering ends this thursday and we won't have to sweat out the last few minutes of the game, in my opinon. Pitt wins, 73-52.

Are these guys really that oblivious? They've been choking on the smog up there in the 'burg for too long.

Pitt writers are also stupid: link (http://community.post-gazette.com/blogs/bobsmizik/archive/2009/03/24/hard-to-apprehensive-about-xavier.aspx).

Ask them about football, and they could give you the stats and scores from the 1956 season for every team in the NFL and college.

Ask them about basketball, and they wouldn't know what a rebound was.

I HATE dayton.

Unbelievable. How can a sports writer exhibit such blatant laziness? All it takes is a quick glance at our schedule to see the impressive victories over Memphis, Missouri, Va Tech, and at LSU or even watching 5 minutes of our defense against Wisconsin.

Hard to get apprehensive? Hard to see Pitt losing to a team that was beat by Duquesne? What about Pitts loss at Providence? The game of comparing teams by their losses is trite and lazy. Now I really hate Pittsburgh.

Some of these comments on the blog are even worse. Atleast Ron Burgundy has our back.

I like how he says that Ok St. only lost two games in the last ten, and citing Missouri as one of the two as a way to say that it is excusable for Ok St. to lose to them (which it is because Mizzou is good), but earlier asks what signature win X has disregarding the win over Mizzou.

Overall, I have no faith in any person from the city of Pittsburgh in any area of life.

Bulletin board material.

Pitt will be weeping come Thursday night with this bull shit attitude. I know it's not the players saying it, but still, I hate Pittsburgh and want X to shock the shit out of them.

umm..., ok. So much for not giving a team any locker room material.

This guy must be another one of those BCS chums, with exceptions being Memphis and Gonzaga. At least one of the responses was dead on saying that X has actually had more success than Pitt.

If this seems jumbled, it's because I hate ignorance, and have become so confused, frustrated, and befuddled by the slop presented by the link that my head might actually explode.

Wow, so how can you take seriously a team that lost at Duquesne? The same way we take seriously a team that lost at Providence. You know, Providence, 79 in the rpi (compared to the Dukes 77) who got rolled in the first round . . . of the NIT?

I do like that someone commented to the story, "Let's hope that the Pitt players don't share this mindset." Even the Pitt people think this writer is a little over his skis.

I'd like to also point out again the comments left by some of these dumbshit fans who responded to this hack's article. They seem to follow this guy's every word and not want to do any individual research, only taking his article as pure truth and honesty.
I seriously hope the Pitt players read that and take it to heart, that way X can come in and finish them off like how OK State and ETSU both should have. "flexing their muscles", HA! I think they had to do that against OK State to stay in the damn tourney.
One word for the clown writer and the idiot comments.......FAIL

Long Live Xavier.

I'm not kidding, I really hope all newspapers die and we have to start all over from stratch. Holy Cow that is just ridiculous.

I like how he uses the idea that if Pitt and Xavier played ten times Pitt would not win them all. Of course that logic is thrown out the window when Xavier travels to Duquesne after a late week day game. There's only one shot between Xavier and Duquesne. There are ten shots for Pitt and Xavier.

I really hope we win, but if I continue to read crap like this I'm going to hope we win by 400 points.

I can just hope that somehow the Pitt players believe a tenth of what their fans believe.

Steeler fans, Duquesne fans, Pitt fans, any fans from that area are cut from the same cloth. The idiot cloth.

Seriously....anyone that roots for any of the above teams can suck a bag of dicks.

I don't know if I'd denigrate their basketball IQ. I mean we have a guy who wanted to make Redford the starting point guard.

Check out their scout board for a good laugh. They have a thread bragging about their spot on the the list of most prestigious programs since '85 (from last year). They come in at a whopping #44. Two posts down, someone mentions getting past a mid-major in this years tourney (us). It felt good to tell them to keep scrolling way higher than 44 to find where X is on that list.

Rep to you sir, for embarrassing cocky asses.

Now to let the muskies prove it on the court.

The average Cincinnatti resident/Xavier fan is dumb... see two can play that game. Seriously, you guys are getting riled up over a couple of blogs and local newspaper crap? So much for having thick skin I guess.

Also, I would appreciate it if you didn't group an entire city of people into being stupid because of some comments made on an article. If you aren't aware of the kind of people that an anonymous setting that the internet brings out by now, then I really don't know what to do for you.

Typical response from a laughable jealous, likely bungles fan. Shitcinnatti... oh look I made a funny joke... NOT. I am laughing at the rubes in this forum, you are making the average xavier fan look like a bunch of fools with stuff like this.

Give it a rest. The thread title is "The average Pitt fan is pretty dumb" not "every Pitt fan is a moron." See the difference? So, no. An entire city of people wasn't "grouped" into being stupid.

I stick by that statement, as well. Put up the average thread from this board against a thread from the Pitt board of your choosing. Hands down, the more insightful, knowledgeable posts will be found in the thread from this board.

Given that the Average Pitt fan is pretty dumb, you expect them to understand this??? How many smart ones do you think there are?

That's funny, I go to Bucknell University which is 30x better than Xavier lol. So I chuckle at your stupidity insults. What are Xavier's admission standards? I wouldn't be surprised if they were lower than Pitt's.

Last Time I checked, Xavier had several of the top programs in the US. Forbes rated our Basketball team in the top 20 in the country. People across the country have heard of Xavier. I'm not sure the same can be said for your school. Are the athletics so bad there that you had to adopt Pitt to cheer for? I guess with Bucky Bison being the mascot... Just Damn!!!

Genius makes fun of Xavier's standards and uses a noun to describe a noun.

I also find it interesting that in the first paragraph you rail against making blanket statements and then provide one in the very next.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Nope, you are wrong. I did not make a blanket statement in the second paragraph... I suggest a reading comprehension course.

Tip off is coming up... here's to a great injury-free game!
