I know we have a few contributors here from the red side of the Gem City.

Here's the situation: I am going to both sessions up at the Arena on Friday. I have a working knowledge of the area around UD's campus.

Basically I need to figure out a bar where my friend and I can watch the Xavier-Portland State game on Friday evening. It's got to be somewhat close to the Arena so we can dash over for the Ohio State-Siena game. And it would probably be best if we don't get killed for rooting for X. Any thoughts?

(Side question: how does one get from the Arena to the campus area with the Stewart Street bridge under repair? I'd like to hit up Tank's or the Golden Nugget--assuming it still exists--for breakfast.)

Thanks for any responses.

There are two ways to get to the arena coming from the south. One is a straight shot up I-75 to the Edwin C. Moses exit. You're right there. Another is to take the Dryden Road exit, go noth a mile or so, and turn right on Nicholas/Edwin C Moses (not sure what's it's called at that intersection). It's the 4 way stoplight right over the river. Takes you right to the arena. With so many non-locals clogging I-75, this may be the quickest way. Pull up a google map and chart a course from Dryden avenue. You can even get to Dryden from Dorothy Lane pretty quickly.

From the north your best bet is I-75. Downtown is a disaster, don't mess with it.

If you do choose to hit up the Golden Nugget, you can take Dorothy Lane west to SR741, turn right, and get on the highway. The arena is the next exit. Very easy. Golden Nugget is still around, in a new, sparkling building. The old one burnt down a few years back. Food is still great, but a lot of the charm was left in the ashes of the old building.

Plan on the trip taking 30 minutes longer than usual. Traffic will be a mess no matter which route you take.

Bar wise your best bet might be to get on I-75 and head south back to the SR-741 exit. Go back to Dorothy Lane and go from there. BWWs is on the corner of Far Hills and Stroop. It seems like it would be a longer trip than detouring over to the campus area, but it probably isn't. No more than 10 minutes once you clear the immediate traffic around the arena. Also, make sure to call ahead and find out which bars have Direct-TV. I read in the DDN that WHIO is showing both games at UD that night. You need to find a place with the March madness package if that's the case. The DDN is wrong a lot, but I'd still call around just to be sure.
