It's 54 - 50 ND over UAB with about 6 and a half minutes left, but that's not what is embarrassing.

What is embarrassing is when the cameras aim upward to show many, many many empty seats. Not exactly one of the premier basketball schools or coaching jobs in the land.

I"m not trying to lay hate on ND. It's just an observation. Maybe the St. Patty's Day thing is the reason for the poor attendance; they're all passed out in the dorms already.

As far as drinking goes, ND wouldn't make the top four in the tri-state area, in my experience.

No problem.

How about Kentucky filling its old place for an NIT game against UNLV?

I wasn't going to post it at all, but for Notre Dame to be taken seriously in basketball, notwithstanding that it's the NIT, it was against UAB and South Bend isn't Metropolis, it was still a very poor showing for the school.

You would think that a BE school with some history with the sport could have done better.

UK could have drawn a 300+ RPI team last night and sold that place out.

I know it wasn't intended, and it was just chance that Rupp was already booked, but a PR/Marketing team could not have come up with a better hook. "Come, watch your Wildcats play where they haven't played in 33 years, where all the seats are so much closer to the court" According to Cats Pause that game sold out in a matter of minutes, and folks weren't buying tickets to watch an NIT game, they were buying tickets to experience the atmosphere that had grown legendary as they listened to their dads over the years tell them about watching games in Memorial.

As I said in another thread - this would be like Xavier announcing they were playing a game in Schmidt Fieldhouse, they could bring in NJIT, they could charge $50-$75-$100 a seat and folks would come running to experience that old time Schmidt atmosphere.

How about that UNLV team cutting a 20 point deficit down to 3 late in the second half. Mind you they choked in the end when it really counted, but I was just imagining the Cats Pause reaction had they managed to blow a 20 point lead, and a NIT game.

As far as other schools go - NIT has to be a tough sell, I mean the pairings get announced Sunday at 9PM, then some schools had games as early as 7pm Tuesday, thats not a lot of time, to get tickets on sale and into the hands of your fans, and virtually no time to advertise with mass media.

NIT game on St. Patrick's Day against some school no one in South Bend ever heard of.

I'm surprised four people went to that game.

NIT! NIT! NIT!

Not impressive. New Mexico had that game and blew it. No props to ND for winning a game at home again. Beat somebody on the road.

I can certainly understand why a bunch of Irish Catholics would rather get drunk on St. Patricks Day than watch an NIT game.

Actually, I'm shocked at the amount of people that actually chose to go to the game...especially students. I know I would have been at a bar instead.

Additionally, if Xavier was in the NIT and someone called and said I have a cold one waiting for you at "insert any bar", I'd be drinkin.'

The NIT is stupid.

According to the NIT bracket then we really need to be Jayhawks fans on Monday night. Imagine this - this would mean Creighton takes out UK, then since Creighton is a #1 seed, Notre Dame gets to go to the Qwest Center of Horrors and deal with not only the road but the anomalies that come with playing in Omaha.

The only problem is that according to the bracket. the Irish played on March 19, and don't play again till March 26. UK/Creighton play on March 23, then have to play the Irish on March 26. Lets see 3 days rest vs. 7 days rest, for a 3rd round NIT tournament game. Where is the fairness in that! None of the other 3 legs of the bracket have that kind of disparity. Let the Big East conspiracy talk begin!

if UK wins Monday then the Irish will have gotten the benefit of lounging around in South Bend for a week, whille UK has had to fly from Lexington to Omaha, possibly back to Lexington, then up to South Bend, oh and play a game in the middle of it.

Looks to me like the Irish had the dealer stack the deck for them.

Oh and Drudy - if XU had been involved in an NIT game, at Cintas, on Tuesday night, you could not have taken 2.5 hours out of your St. Paddy's day fun to come cheer on your team? You could have blue beer at Ryans before the game, then go for either Black beer (Guinness), or Green beer at the bar of your choice after the game. Sounds like a Win/Win to me.

I don't know. I would love to be at the Davidson / St Mary's game on Monday. I lived 5 minutes from St. Mary's campus for more years than I would care to remember, and I saw a lot of bad basketball. It would be nice to be there now.

No...it's the equivalent to a pre-season game to me. I hate the NIT.

It might be a good game...but it still doesn't mean anything.

...ummm, yes. Notre Dame always blows. Football...basketball. It doesn't matter. I'm an ND hater though. I admit that.
