Kentucky @ Creighton in the second round if they both win. It would be nice to see the majorest of the majors see what it's like to go on the road to a place like Creighton.

The St. Mary's vs. Washington State first round match-up intrigues me as well. I have a big problem with St. Mary's and Creighton not being in the tournament this year.

That is one tough place to play. I think Kentucky will find that out if they don't bow out like a little girl.
Kentucky is a shadow of the Tubby days. That man knew how to run a program.

Anyone believe the UK faithfull now wishes they hadn't run Tubby out of town now?

No, they're still glad to be rid of Tubby. Some of them just wish they'd have picked someone else to replace him.

Yeah, all Tubby did was bring Minnesota back to respectable in 2 seasons.

I don't think you're really selling Tubby to UK fans. Respectability is not really what they're after. Plus, he recruited most of that dreck on UK's roster.
I think it was best for all parties that he left (still). UK should just have done a better job at picking a replacement.

At the risk of drawing the wrath of some folks, we all know why Tubby was "run out of town." And we know why the coach at VCU won't be hired although he could recruit a helluva lot better than Gillespie. If you're looking for a replacement, try Pelfrey at Arkansas. :D

At least UK gets to have one throwback game vs. UNLV at Memorial Coliseum (Rupp Arena has the boys Sweet 16 Tournament this week) before potentially matching up with Creighton.
Two of the most corrupt programs going at it will be entertaining.

Haha, I have been begging people to make a case for either in several threads now. Still no replies...
It's not a matter of two mid majors being shut out, it's a matter of two mid majors not being good enough to make the tournament.

You really have to be kidding. Listen, I hate Kentucky as much as anyone, but those fans only care about one thing: winning. If Louis Farrakhan was the head coach and winning, they'd be happy. Tubby just didn't win enough. Period.

That was a damn funny line.
I'm sure Creighton fans are disappointed to not get in, but they got one hell of a consolation prize - potential home games against Kentucky and Notre Dame.

The NIT demonstrated once again why I don't care for that tournament at all.
I hate UC as much as the next guy, but G'Town and ND are in and they are not?
What a serious waste of time that tournament is.

Pelfry? Seriously? Pelfrey went 2-14 in the conference this year and is under investigation for questionable recruiting.
As for your inference, I think you are way off base. Look at their head football coach in waiting.

The NIT is not interested in the 1500 people that would attend a game @ UC.

HA! Agree to agree.
And the whole Creighton and St. Mary's not getting in thing is more philosophical than anything else. I know Arizona and Maryland had better wins. But I just feel as though to win the MVC's regular season with 26 wins deserves a bid into the tournament. Winning that many games in a solid league should be rewarded in my opinion.
But to bust out the worst cliche in sports: It is what it is.
And regardless, come Thursday no one will remember these teams anyways. Happens every year.

Normally, all else equal, I'd give it to the team from the smaller conference. However, St Mary's beat exactly zero teams that are in the tournament.
Creighton is slightly easier to make a case for, but they're hanging their hat on beating Dayton and the team that won their conference tourney. It just seems like a lot of teams could do the same, including those that are nowhere near the bubble. If Duquesne would have beaten Temple, I think Temple would have been far and a away a superior choice to these two.
Again, I get as upset as anyone when a "mid-major" gets screwed, I just don't think that happened this year.

I'm marking UK as a clear winner over UNLV on the NIT Bracket Contest. (As soon as it is announced).
For one they are doing retro arena night, Memorial has, at best, maybe a third the seating of Rupp Arena. According to Cats Pause they put the tickets on TicketMaster at 11PM last night, and they sold out in MINUTES. 7,500+ I believe is the capacity of Memorial, and when I saw pictures of it it looked like a size wise comparison to Palumbo Center. This means not only will it be full, it will be full with the fans who made it to TicketMaster the fastest, not the wine and cheese crew in the seats.
UNLV won't know what hit them.
Then they will go and get a taste of that infamous Creighton home cooking.
Though from what I could tell the fans really aren't interested in the NIT as much as they are about getting to see a Men's game in Memorial. It would be like Xavier announcing that our men's team would be playig one retro game at Schmidt, the first 3,000 people to the ticket office get the tickets. I don't care who the opponent was, they could bring in NJIT and all of us would drop what we were doing to be camped out at the Schmidt Fieldhouse ticket windows WELL in advance just to relive "the good old days"

Wikipedia says 9,000 which will obviously all be UK fans. The only thing that Memorial holds is women sporting events.

In the old days, when Memorial was UK's home court, the capacity was 11,700. They probably took some portable seats out and threw them away.

I agree with the others, q. Tubby had lost his edge at UK. He is a great coach and wasn't fully appreciated there, but I think the main reason he left was the winning percentage.
And Pelfrey will not be their next coach. Travis Ford is a better candidate, but rumors are that Billy Donavan may be interested now that he's had his fling with the NBA.

Creighton blew a big opportunity....choke job!
Caught the tail end of the game on 1530 coming home from class last night.
The way the announcers were screaming and yelling, you would have thought UK just won the national championship. According to them, the atmosphere in Omaha was unlike anything they had seen.
Solid win for UK. Tough ass place to play.
