I watched a bit of this tournament off and on yesterday. The higher seeds won every game, so things are going according to plan.
- If Vanderbilt was a bubble team, they ended all of that talk yesterday. Alabama was a train-wreck under Mark Gottfried, and they have looked better and better since dumping him. The Tide is an exceptionally athletic team, but they actually looked like a good basketball team yesterday.
- Kentucky won a much needed game against Ole Miss. They will have to do something special to get to the dance, but they are Kentucky, and the NCAA will probably find a home for them if they are close. That doesn't make it right, but it is what it is.
- Miss. St. beat Georgia as expected. They got their 20th win of the season, but like UK, they have a lot of work to do. They could be dangerous though. They have a head-case redshirt freshman that has decided he can play now, and MSU is a much better team with him. If they get past USC today, they can start thinking about the NCAA, but for now, they are solidly out.
- Florida beat Arkansas as expected. I am thinking that Florida will get in. Nick Calathes is darn good. Arkansas just finished one of the worst years of any SEC team that I can remember. They did beat Oklahoma and Texas in pre-season, but once the conference season started, they were just wretched.
If the seeds hold as expected, I am guessing that the SEC is a 3-bid league. A lot of brackets are sticking the 5-bids, but I don't see it.

If Kentucky wins today, they'll probably win the SEC Tournament.
I sure hope they don't, as I'm really looking forward to seeing UK playing an NIT game in Memorial Coliseum.

I think Meeks will wear out in 4 days with all of the minutes that he has to play. UK isn't much when he isn't in or is having an off game. He may be the best player I have seen all year, but the guy is in bad need of some help.

The SEC feed running on Yahoo Sports is better than the one on Channelsurfing.

Today is a great day. First, I find out my boss is gone all next week which makes skipping work next Thursday and Friday easier and now UK loses. Woohoo!

It's a final!!!
LSU wins, Kentucky goes down. Billy boy will really hear the "CAT-calls" and feel the heat. Wildcat fan is not happy. Patterson is probably going pro. Meeks? Who knows?
Another reason why if you have a good coaching job, think twice before you take that "Big Job".

Patterson already said he was staying another year.
But any UK loss is a cause for celebration but combine that with LSU moving on and I am a really happy camper.

Not necessarily. Patrick's Mom had a meeting with Barnhart. That doesn't indicate that all is well.

Kentucky fans have some sort of crazy conspiracy theory that one of today's refs, Tony Greene, has it out for them, and that contributed today's loss. Hey, whatever helps them sleep better at night.

Skipping work for personal gain is no way to get out of your parents' basement. Don't be surprised to find a pink slip on Monday.

Mississippi State beats South Carolina 82-68. South Carolina is now 21-9, didn't finish strong, and has a #49 RPI. That would put them squarely on the bubble. Lunardi had them in his last 4 in before the tourneys started.
MSU vs. LSU for the semis. LSU won easily in Baton Rouge and won in Double OT in Starkville.
I will be pulling for Auburn tonight. An Auburn/LSU final would be fun for X fans.

Oh well, Auburn and LSU both lost today. Tenn vs. Miss. St. in the finals. If MSU wins, they will kick out one of the bubble teams.

SC is done. Only LSU and Tennessee can feel reasonably confident of bids in that conference.

Looks like Miss. St. is about to steal a bid from someone. Could be a possible opponent for X in the first round--I'd take that.

Good call about Miss St, Glow

MSU is exactly the type of team X needs to avoid. They play a 4 guard, 1 center offense. It would be a matchup nightmare.
Close game...1 pt lead for Miss st. Miss St was just "fouled" with 23.4 seconds left.

Some absolutely horrendous calls here at the end. The "foul" that sent the Miss. St. guy to the line was the worst you will ever see--didn't even touch him at all. And the five second count took about 4, according to the replay.
All sandwiched around a questionable non-travel call in Tennessee's favor. I foresee a makeup call here on a pushoff or something similar by Miss. State.

Wow! That's the worse yet! The MSU guy just got pushed out of bounds, no call. Tennessee ball.
3 point lead for State with 8 seconds left. Does MISS foul Tennessee?
No foul and Mississippi wins.

My Gawd,
That game set basketball back to the peach basket era.
If the name of the Conference was "Atlantic 10" I can hear the whining from the BESPN idiots about how nobody from the league deserved to go.

Was Tennessee actively trying to piss that game away or does it just come naturally to them?

Gotta love Jarvis Varnado. More blocks that 325 D1 teams. MSU was tired from the 4 games in 4 days. They clearly needed that win to get to the dance. The reffing in that game was pretty bad.

With this win by Mississippi State, all 4 12-seeds will be automatic bids that wouldn't have made the tournament otherwise (Temple, Mississippi State, VCU, Northern Iowa). If Xavier does in fact get a 5 seed as both Palm and Lunardi are now projecting, it is probably the best year ever to be a 5 seed.
