The Enquirer's latest article on UC basketball is a piece on Mick Cronin and his thoughts on the team and why they failed. Does anybody else think this guy is nothing but a whiner and an excuse maker? Here is the link:

Cronin frustrated, determined (http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090311/SPT0101/303110045/1055/NEWS)

One excerpt that I found particularly excusey was this:

“Our problem is we’re young and immature,” he said. “We got worn down. Mike Williams hasn’t been the same (since his knee injury). Too much time off killed him. Larry Davis hasn’t been the same since he hurt his ankle. And Rashad Bishop hurt his hamstring against South Florida. It all compounded for us at the same time. It all added up.”

Excuse maker, does he have aspirations of being a Dayton head coach?

If, by "excuse maker" you mean "whiney bitch" then, yes, he is an excuse maker.

What coach is going to say that he sucks and isn't effective as a leader. The team is lacking in talent, and John Wooden wouldn't do a whole lot better. Hopefully for UC, getting the PG back next year will help them play better on both sides of the ball. Otherwise, say goodbye to Mick.

John Wooden's 90 years old!

John Wooden's 98 and he just got out of the hospital, even. (Continued good health to him.)

I don't really buy that they don't have talent there. He's in the midst of a rebuilding process, no doubt, but he's also got Deonta Vaughn (all Big East last season), Mike Williams (very highly recruited at Texas), Yancy Gates, (a five star recruit), etc.

I think the biggest thing has to be the way they have collapsed down the stretch over the last couple of years. That's very troubling. I also think that UC fans are expecting an awful lot if they are counting on Cashmere Wright to get them over the hump. I'm sure he's talented, but counting on a freshman point guard who is coming off a torn ACL to be the difference-maker could be tricky.

Based on what he inherited, Cronin needs some time to rebuild the program. And I still think the team has improved in his three years there. But this team is still lacking in talent. And next year he has one recruit coming in. And on paper that recruit is nothing special.

As for Mike Williams, there was a reason he transferred from Texas. He wasn't good enough to get much playing time there.

But I agree with one thing. This team just quit at the end of the season. And that doesn't reflect well on the coach.

The other thing is the guy is definitely a whiner who should keep his mouth shut at times.

Ibrahima Thomas is also transferring from Oklahoma St. to UC. Travis Ford had this to say about Thomas, "We are looking for players who are fully committed to doing whatever it takes to make this program successful. The guys currently on this team are dedicated to doing just that."

They are also recruiting another kid who was just released from his LOI by Loyola Marymount but I forget his name. Some Big East and A-10 schools are going after him. Hopefully an A-10 team can steal him from Mick.

When I think about or hear from Mick I instantly think of this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vJ79D5-COs

Mic is not the answer for UC and their fans know it!
Love it! :D
