Xavier (15-4) vs. Dayton (14-2)
Cintas Center (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Thursday, January 24, 2008
8:00 p.m. EST on CSTV and heard on 700 WLW
The Setting:
The University of Dayton visits the Cintas Center, a place they've never tasted victory. Dayton has not won a game against Xavier in Cincinnati since the Jimmy Carter administration.
Last Game:
Dayton was upset at home by UMASS 82-71. Xavier completed a split of their east coast road swing by beating GW 74-66.
Previous Meeting:
Xavier beat Dayton three times last season. The last victory coming in the A-10 tournament when Senior Justin Doellman score 19 points in the victory. Brian Roberts scored 22 points in the loss for Dayton.
Keys to the Game:
Defense. Xavier did a nice job of limiting Brian Roberts in the A-10 tournament game's 1st half (5 points). They must go with what worked in that game. X must also take advantage of the mismatches in the Dayton lineup. Drew Lavender must get the ball in CJ Anderson's hands early to add some scoring depth. Finally, X must determine early whether they will rely on the three-pointer. An off night from behind the arc could spell doom.
The X-Factor:
Which Josh Duncan will come to play at the Cintas Center? The aggressive scoring machine, or the Josh Duncan that took plays off during the Temple game.
