While there's still the Big East tourney to consider, does UC even make the NIT?

Wow. Unreal. Everybody in Clifton still happy with Coach Cronin? Have they tanked EVERY season down the stretch under his leadership or just the last two. I can't recall. This postgame should be interesting. He's never one to shy away from calling out his players. Learned that from Huggy Bear.
I really don't blame Mick. Seton Hall would be a top ten team in the nation in any other conference besides the Big East.

Yep, I was there to watch the dagger to end their season. Not much to report except the place was so quiet you could hear Cronin, from the upper deck, on the opposite side of the court. That and the 21 rows worth of seat upgrade I gave myself.
Sure, the fans came alive during the OT period but for awhile had the "Dear God, can it just end" looks on their faces.
It was an educational experience for me, I got to see how a losing team does Senior Night, you know without the confetti cannons, trophy ceremony, (controlled and orchestrated) court storming, net cutting, and all around good vibes.
Ok, back to the game - ill advised threes, turnovers, and free throws clearly cost sUCks the game. Nah, lets just say abysmal free throw shooting cost sUCks the game.
Oh, its 3:28PM and UC and UD both SUCK.
(That said, their campus is really pretty to walk around, and the 7 Hills of Cincinnati extend to its campus. The whole Varsity Viliage thing looks really well done.) There, thats for the "If you can't say anything nice" dept.

Here is their resume. Got it from Lance's blog. They should just close up shop until next year.
Fade to black: Seton Hall 67 UC 63
UC has now lost 5 of their last 6 games.
They led by 14 at home to Seton Hall on Saturday.
They led 51-42 late.
They hit 8 of 17 ft's
They hit 7 of 25 3pter
They are 17-12 vs D1 teams
They finish 8-10 in the Big East....again.
They are 11-12 vs Top 200 in RPI
They are 7-0 vs RPI +201 and non D1 teams
Last year UC lost their final 7 games

They'll make the NIT.
I don't think your specific stats in a single game count as part of your "tournament resume." They had a bad game (a bad stretch of games, actually).
Let's put it this way: If UC doesn't go to the NIT, then where does that leave Georgetown, who UC swept and who finished behind the Bearcats in the Big East?

It was not 1 game. UC is 17-12 against division 1 teams, they have lost 5 of 6, they are 11-12 against teams under 200 in the RPI and have 7 wins against teams +200 in the RPI. Does that qualify them for an NIT bid?

The average RPI of all the teams that UC has beaten exceeds 160 (I assigned the highest RPI to South Dakota), with the vast majority of those wins (14 of 18) coming at home.
Beating the nation's worst teams at home is not a great way to build a resume. It also doesn't help them in terms of home attendance either. I wonder how many BCS teams in played 5 games against teams with an RPI of 300 or worse?
And yet you hear the lcoal media (e.g., Lance) talk about how impressed they are that they have 18 wins.

I know that a lot of UC fans believe it is the lack of a PG that is UC's primary problem. But I just looked at UC's Defensive Efficiency over the previous 9 games, and it is 115.3. Trust me, defense is their problem; not offense.
To put that 115.3 in perspective, that would rank 343rd if you apply it over the entire season. To put that in perspective, there are only 344 teams.
It's the defense, stupid!

UC is the #9 seed in the Big East tournament - anyone want to bet that DePaul (or DePuke to MOR) will beat them Tuesday night and UC doesn't even get to play a Big East game on TV next week?

There's also a 4th tournament that UC can buy their way into.

Those are all things that are part of a "resume."
You also listed these things:
"They led by 14 at home to Seton Hall on Saturday.
They led 51-42 late.
They hit 8 of 17 ft's
They hit 7 of 25 3pter"
Those are not things that are part of a resume as far as tourney selection goes. I enjoy seeing UC lose as much as anyone (and possibly more), but no one is giong to look at how many three pointers they hit against Seton Hall in deciding what tourney they go to. That's all I was pointing out.
FWIW, I think they will get into the NIT based on their position in the Big East (9th Seed) and their relatively strong RPI. Now, if they lose to DePaul in their first BE tourney game, they may be looking at the CBI.

good call on this X-band! the only thing you messed up on was that it happened first thing on Tuesday instead of tonight.

Both of them?
You aren't too far off, you did note I sat 21 rows closer to the court than my ticketed seat, AND had the entire row in my section to myself!
This and today's embarassment at the Garden Party, what time is the press conference about UC deciding to discontinue its basketball program to focus on football? :) :) :D
Hmm Fordham isn't doing anything this week, can we send the Bearcats to Rose Hill Gym for an exhibition game. Just think what a win over a Big East team would do for the Fordham fans?

This will be the last shot for UC fans to blame Nancy Zimpher for their program going down the drain. If UC has to buy their way into the postseason in the future, we should make them a buy game in the Shootout.

CBI or NIT? Either one would work. Luckily they both only have three letters. Going to the NCAA wouldn't be fair. Four letters would just confuse them.

With the pathetic showing yesterday, I don't think they even get into the NIT. If not, I don't think there is any way they can accept a bid in the CBI. I mean, for a team in the supposedly far superior Big Least to pay their way into that ridiculous excuse for a tournament two years in a row is unacceptable. They may as well just stop playing basketball. No recruit is going to be impressed when you come into their living room and tell them that you were fortunate to be allowed to buy into the prestigious CBI two years in a row.

Does anyone even know if you make any money playing in the CBI? Based on stories of schools like Rutgers losing money going to bowl games, it would seem to me that traveling to your CBI game would lose your school money rather than make it.
If my guess is true, that would be the main reason for me to deny the CBI.

I know that there are a number of UC fans who blame this season on having no point guard, which didn't allow Vaughn to score more whlie playing his more natural position.
As I've said before, UC's problem is lack of defense.
Last seasoin, UC was #72 in the country in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency.
This season, UC actually dropped to #106 in the country in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency.
Yet last year, UC was #132 in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency -- and that's when they had a PG to allow Vaughn to play the 2.
This season, they were #76 in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency.
This was actually their worst defensive showing under Cronin. They were #98 in the country in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency during his first season when he was completely rebuilding.

Mick has stated that UC will accept an NIT bid but not to the CBI or the 4th tournament.
The NIT has also stated that they didn't ask UC yet so why is he getting ahead of himself?

Given the history of Mick at UC, it probably is a case of "we didn't want to go there anyway". If they get in front of the curve, then maybe they won't lose too much face by not getting an invite to any tournament...

In all honestly, with as bad a reputation as the CBI got last year, how do they even expect to get a full field now that I'm sure AD's of the schools that accepted bids last year, particularly those that were 'honored' to pay through the nose for home games will be sure to dissuade their colleagues away from it. If I recall, last year there was a long delay annoucing the field becuase they had to work through 20 some odd schools that said "No" till they found some that said "Yes".
Much less the 4th tournament!
I mean the stigma of playing in the NIT is bad enough, the CBI should have gone away quietly, instead we now have 2 wanna be no name tourneys.
