Pretty sure Rhode Island is guaranteed to finish the #2 seed regardless of the outcome of todays game. Temple and/or Dayton could finish tied with them in win-loss, but Rhody holds both tiebreakers. If URI loses to UMass X wins the A10 regular season outright before taking the court against Richmond. Go Premature Ejac, er, Minutemen!

Can't find this game anywhere on the TV guide, but it is listed on Channelsurfing.net, and Dunga has posted a couple links on the A10 board. Game tips in about 20 minutes.

4 to 4 early in the first half

UMass takes a 6 point lead about 7 in. Aside from how this game impacts X, URI really needs this game to maintain at-large hopes. On the other hand, it seems bubbles are popping all across the NCAA's so maybe a loss doesn't kill them. The A10 is #8 in the RPI, and URI finishing 2nd on the regular season has to carry some weight.

Speaking of bubbles, Gameday had Dayton sitting firmly on one. How great would it be if they lose today and early in the conf tourny and do not make the NCAA.

This is the typical "underachieving A10 team ruins conference opponents season" situation. URI at home on senior night, and UMass has absolutely nothing to lose. We've all seen how good UMass can be with some individual players like Harris, Gaffney and Lowe that can really play. All the pressure is squarely on URI.

What's the score, Waggy?
Gametracker shows 36-35 UMass with about 2 to go in the first half.

UMass 41

40 seconds left in 1st half.
UMass by6. It's on channelsurfing if you want to watch

Ugh. Come on, Rhody! Do it for the A10.
Looking at the stats, UMASS has 7 3 pointers to URI's 0. I may have to turn on channelsurfing. Is Baron not on tonight or just being heavily guarded?
Half: 41-37 UMass
I guess UMass felt like Rhode Island was a good enough team for them to try.

Sorry, was temporarily distracted in X Lounge.

Decided to start watching this game on the net, and URI looks sluggish. UMass is switching defenses - some full court pressure, and then some zone.

Announcers just said that URI is 0-13 on 3's.

And Baron hits a 3 to tie for all time A10 record at 342.

That's a ton of threes for a career.

URI can really make a dent in UMass' 6 point lead. UMass keeps creating good looks, and hitting their shots. A little over 11 to go.

Not looking good for URI. Natives getting restless.

And then URI gets a steal, and Baron hits a 3 to cut lead to 3.
Baron all time 3 pointers made A10 record.

The last minute or so of this game has been just amazing. Baron hits another 3 - URI takes first lead in forever, by 2.

Oh shit, is this pressure packed or what? 17 seconds URI ball down one. Everyone knows they want Baron to take the shot.
17 seconds - UMASS by 1 and Rhody has the ball. Rhody just called a timeout.

Lowe hits a last second drive! The Muskies are outright A-10 champions!
UMASS wins on a last second shot.

(yay - post #100)
UMASS wins on a last second shot.
I thought Harris traveled a little bit, but oh well...

Wow, heartbreaking for URI. The guard steps up and hits two free throws to get them the lead, and then Lowe gets loose for the game winner. Losing on your home floor is not good, but maybe they aren't completely dead.
Congrats to the Outright A10 Champion Musketeers!

Honestly, Rhodee got screwed big time by the refs.
-There should have been no 5 second call on Rhodee. A guy switched.
-Bonner was blocked clean. No foul should have been called.
-Very possibly a travel on UMass on the last play.
Oh well. Flagship. But let's win tonight and validate.

There was also the call where they picked Lowe in the lane. That call was more understandable, but it looked clean, and I was expecting a make-up for the 5 second that was clearly wrong.

guess that takes the pressure off for tonite, but then is that a good thing?

I'm glad to have the title, but I think I would rather have had Rhode Island win the game. I'd like for them to stay a Top 50 win for us and to keep the pressure on our boys to win tonight's game.
Oh well. Outright A-10 champs!

Ever since Lamar Odom hit that ridiculous shot in the A-10 final, URI seems to have been paying back an enormous karmic debt. I'm glad I'm not a URI fan, the past two seasons would have given me a series of heart attacks and caused me to rip all my hair out of my scalp.
