Also got started today with first round games. The only upset on day one was Towson beating Bruiser Flints Drexel Dragons. Towson is the 11 seed - Drexel was the 6. The top seeds VCU, George Mason, Northeastern & Old Dominion have their first games tomorrow against todays winners.
The CAA is ranked 14th in the RPI, and George Mason (the #2 seed) has the best team RPI at 51. This appears to be a Juan Bid conference, but it has some pretty good teams, and battle for the bid should be a good one.

I like Northeastern here. They could catch someone sleeping in the first round. I really like this league (though maybe not this year).

Looks like these games are airing on CSNE, channel 630 on DTV. VCU leads Georgia State comfortably in todays first game.
The best game today will probably be Hofstra vs. Old Dominion, or possibly James Madison vs. George Mason.

Georgia State cut the lead to 7 with about 5 minutes to go, and the crowd started getting pissy. Realized the tourney is being played in Richmond VA - so advantage VCU.

Hofstra leads at the half by one over Old Dominion, and led most of the first half sometimes by as much as maybe 7. Hofstra is the 5 seed and had to play in yesterdays 1st round.

Hofstra has scored only 9 points in the second half after almost 14 minutes played. ODU hasn't been much better, and it's just a 6 point game.

Crazy sequence to end the ODU/Hofstra game with some questionable officiating, but ODU survives as the 4 seed.

I liked Northeastern too, but they are in trouble. Down 4 with 50 seconds left against Towson. Towson is the 11 seed.

And Towson does knock off Northeastern.
So the semis tomorrow are Old Dominion vs. VCU, and Towson vs. George Mason.

VCU beat Old Dominion in the first semi-final. Yesterday I was able to get the CAA tourney games on DTV, but today it appears blacked out. Whatever the case it ain't there. I did find a free on-line stream of the video without sound. Could probably sync up a and online radio feed for those interested. The 2nd semi is Towson (11 seed) against George Mason. The game won't start for about another 30 minutes. Here's the link to the live video:

BTW, these games and a bunch of others are available on ESPN360. I can't view however because my ISP isn't a "friendly".

Towson giving George Mason everything they want. Really good game so far. Towson down 29-26 at the half, but they would be leading if they would have shot better. They played better D, and got better looks. GM made a deep 3 to end the half they were fortunate to get. Towson is coached by Pat Kennedy previously at Florida State and Depaul I believe.

Towson comes out of the locker room with a 6-0 run to take a 32-29 lead. It's worth mentioning that Towson is playing their 3rd game in 3 days, whereas GM had a 1st round bye.

Towson has held G Mason to only 7 points for 10 minutes in the 2nd, and just hit a deep 3 to take a 42-36 lead. Towson has been fantastic defensively, with a bunch of blocked shots.

Who the hell can watch ESPN360? No one I know can.

I'm watching this game on Comcast Sports South, Towson is tiring, they can't hit shots.

Yup, Mason hangs on 56-48. Good game. I liked the way the game was officiated - very few calls - they just let'm play. A GM player did get hurt near the end with I think an accidental hit in the face. Couldn't tell if it was his nose or mouth.

AT&T and Verizon are the only notable ISPs that I know of that carry ESPN360. Insight might carry it as well.

Whoever gets VCU in the tournament will have their hands full.
I have seen a couple brackets with Xavier-VCU in the first round.
Can't wait.

Too bad the X-VCU game in the Paradise Jam 2 years ago wasn't on TV - that was a close game that I think went to OT. Both teams made it to the 2nd round of the NCAAs that year.
