Down goes UC and it's NCAA hopes losing to a bad bad and short handed South Florida ball club in front of about 500 people. Question is will Mick come out and say that South Florida would win the A-10? Maybe next year Mick.

70-59 loss to USF. Ouch. No chance for the tourney now.

Normaly I don't bash UC, but if I hear "on the road in the Big East" from Mick,Lance et al, I'll puke.

just like last year, as soon as Mick started whining about not getting respect from "bracketologists" their season goes in the tank. That being said, NIT is about as successful as I thought they would be this year, I think they make their return to the tourney next year assuming Wright returns with no setbacks.

After UC beat West Virginia, I thought they had a real good chance of getting into the tourney. But they have just fallen apart. They just lost double digits to a terrible USF team.
I wonder what Coach Whiner will complain about this time. The guy should keep his mouth shut at least until he wins a few games.
Did anyone read his quote after the 'Cuse game where he said about the flagrant foul call, "Unlike other Big East and national coaches, I took my player out after he committed that foul."? Pretty tough talk for a guy who hasn't accomplished a whole lot.

UC should start worrying about their seeding in the NIT...not if they will make the NCAA

All day they were talking about how South Florida lost their 2nd leading scorer and two other guys who had started at some point this year. Then they go out and lose by 11. Syracuse might be able to win the A-10 (not really), but Mick would be the worst coach in the A-10.

Typical late season collapse we have grown to see under Cronin each year. His February-March records got to be really bad in his UC tenure.

I disagree about them being 'back' next year.
I think that program is dead. As much as they want to talk about their big east affiliation and how they will always be the story in this town it makes no difference. We may be second fiddle in the media but who give a f*ck. All anybody ever does is complain about the local media anyway. Nationally the perception of the 2 programs is hands down in Xavier's corner.
Cronin is crap coach. He is a total Weasel that commands no respect from his players. UC is to the Big East what St. Bonnies is to the A-10. I see UC performing on about UD's level during the next decade (1-2 NCAA's a decade, maybe a win there somewhere).
C. Wright could make them better, but Im not convinced he will be anything more next year than Holloway has been for us. YOu can not count of frosh PG's in College BB.
It's fun being the city's premier team, even if UC fans are right that only X fans care. That is perfect, because I am an X fan. It is such a waste of time trying to slam X fans because we have fewer followers. It makes NO F"N DIFFERENCE. The fans we have crush their's in loyalty to the program

Yup, I can just hear it now "All we have to do is take the Trophy at Madison Square Gardens and we are SET"
Unlike most here, I usually at least root for the home teams (Reds, Bengals, Clones, Musketeers, and I guess the Bearcats as long as they aren't playing us) However, since Coach Motormouth has been running his mouth about how disrespected his team is, I must admit to taking pleasure in watching them get it handed to them by a Big East doormat. Did the commentator really say this is the first time South Florida won 4 Big East games in the same season???
The only way this Crow Pie that Coach Crybaby is eating could be any better is if they choke on Senior Night at home to Seton Hall on Saturday.
Time to head to the Bearcat message boards - this should be entertaining.

G'Town also spit the bit versus St. John's tonight. Hopefully that ends the Hoya bubble talk as well.
I'd love it if the ACC got more teams into the Dance this year than the Big East.

My feelings exactly. Mick has his head placed firmly up his own a$$. UC fans/alums at work say the same thing.
I know many X fans hated Huggins. I loved Huggins. First, he wasn't our coach. And second, I loved to beat him. Say what you want about Huggs, but I can't see him making a classless highly public statement like Mick did regarding the A-10.
Like I said on the MM board, karma's a b!tch, isn't it, Mick?

As I said earlier (http://www.xavierhoops.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8663), this talk of the'08-'09 Big East being the Best Conference Ever is just plain stupid. They aren't even the best conference this season, and it honestly isn't even that close.
No question the conference is well ahead of the A-10 from top to bottom, but it is vastly overrated by Big East fans.

I disagree on one point. I think they will be good next year but terrible after that. Vaughn moving to the 2 should help some next year and Gates will be a soph. But once Vaughn is gone in two years, the Cats are screwed. Who is going to take over for Vaughn? Dixon and Davis can't. Mitchell and Bishop are more of a 3, but neither of them is progressing, and in my opinion, they are regressing.

Man, what to do Saturday - I split a Bearcats Final Four minipack with another person that wanted the Lousiville game and I wanted the West Virginia game. I have two Bearcats/Seton Hall tickets sitting here in front of me.
Do I want to waste a perfectly good Saturday afternoon watching two bad teams go at it to see who isn't quite as bad as the other?
At least the West Virgnia game featured a fairly decent game, and getting to watch Huggins lose yet again to a team from Cincinnati.

I'd go to a Seton Hall chat site and try to find a local SH fan interested in two tix for the game.

I genuinely feel bad for Gates. He made a poor choice in a program, but man, that kid is a beast and I would gladly take him at X if he wanted to transfer.
As for Cronin, he has gotten what he deserves. Instead of bashing on another conference, he should have focused on his team, just like (ahem) what Coach Miller told him to do with his response. Well done Coach Miller. Well done indeed.
Payback dayton.

Vaughn is in the same boat as Gates - great players who aligned themselves with a sinking ship. Vaughn is shaping up to get NO NCAA tournament experiecne.
If we're the flagship, they are the once great Titanic that is sinking into obscurity.

I've always found my self agreeing with those around town that claim Huggins' supporters are uneducated hillbilly's who prefer a winning product to a respectable athletic program.
But I have to admit, I can see where they are coming from now. UC will never bet the same without Huggins. Let's face it, it's an urban commuter school that will struggle to draw athletic talent from more leafy campuses. Yes, I know Louisville and Memphis have done quite well as urban schools, but they have legendary coaches.
The decision to fire Huggins had to be made. But yeah, it was unfortunate for UC.

I watched it and loved it. How about Endgame Mick? That game was in the balance when UC gave USF an entire minute off the clock by fouling them consecutively as the clock wound down till the end. What the hell was that?
Funny coming from the guy who pointedly said he would have handled the last 10 seconds against OSU differently.
Also, Mick appears to be starring in the latest seson of The Amazing Race(iMike White).

Fred, I agree, those final minutes were the worst coaching job I have ever seen. How could he not be screaming at his players to foul immediately to save time? UC played with no sense of urgency whatsoever. The very fact that they let themselves get down to a lowly team shows they've given up. They appear to be just muddling through March like the games are obligatory. That lack of effort does not even deserve an NIT bid.

I was listening to the start of the game on the way home last night. Dan Hoard said that many people don't know that USF is the 9th largest university in the country. They've got about 45,000 students. WTF? I would have never thought that.

Well, there's a chance of rain Saturday so it might be good to be indoors. It might be amusing to watch the deluded UC fans trying to pretend they are getting into the tourney. And there's always that innovative "ooh, ooh, ooh, UC" chant!

Ya....i know a USF grad. He used to commute an hour everyday to school. HUGE alumni base. Not sure why that has anything to do with them beating UC...but oh well :D
