Seems that some Connecticut state senators want Jimmy reprimanded for his outburst. Even the Governor described his behavior as embarrassing. Don't these people have anything better to do? Calhoun is not the reason their state is facing a huge deficit. The reporter had it coming. Calhoun issued a statement that he was not making light of the economic difficulties that many folks are facing. To his credit, the UCONN president is supporting Calhoun.

Cheese, the wife is from CT and the fam agrees with Calhoun and I agree with you. Wrong place, wrong time for the reporter. The response was great from Calhoun and he has recently said what he needed to make those who need to feel good do so. All and all, the Gov probably hurt herself by evening speaking out about this silly situation.
I still freakin' love Calhoun for his initial response of "not a dime".

Seth Davis has cemented his place among the great a-holes in sports. At the half of the UNC/GT game he claimed that Calhoun should apologize and that he handled the situation poorly.
Why can't people realize that there are some jackholes out there that need to be spoken to like Calhoun did to the "reporter" that was badgering him? Why do we insist that we must play nice with everyone? The guy was going after Calhoun, wrongly, and the coach countered. The reality is that what happened was exactly what needed to happen. I'm not a Calhoun fan, but he handled that the way it should have been handled.
I hope someone goes on the attack against Seth Davis one day (of course it will probably be justified in that case) and he curls into a ball and takes it like the biatch that he is...then sends the attacker a dozen roses as thank you.

Seth Davis is a nobber and he should apologize for being one.
I really can't believe this situation has grown the way it has. Do people realize Calhoun pays higher taxes as well?

UConn should start paying their head basketball coach $200k/year. I'm sure they'd get some fabulous candidates. I'm sure Danny Nee, Steve Lappas, Anthony Soloman, Bob Hill and Jerry DiGregorio would be interested. Maybe even Karl Hobbs.

I hope the result of all this is that the UConn program gets trashed.

Calhoun is 2nd in wins among active coaches behind only Coach K. He is the 7th highest paid coach behind Self, Crean, Izzo, Thad, Rick Barnes, and Tubby Smith (he is getting paid 2 mill, What?). Plus Calhoun makes money for the university.
Legislators in Connecticut make 28,000 and they lose money. If anyone is overpaid, it's them.

Jesus Christ himself (the real one, not the screen name) did not suffer fools. Why should Jim Calhoun?

Calhoun doesn't have to make apologies for his salary. And for a reporter to bring this up in a postgame press conference is chickenshit. But, Calhoun would have been fine if he wouldn't have gotten all emotional about it. The sort of smug, loud outburst is why this is still getting play. So he didn't handle it perfectly. Not that there is a playbook for this sort of thing.

the fact that the reporter was not even a reporter. he was in the press conference on a photographer's credential
