I was watching the WHIO Channel 7 broadcast out of Dayton and at halftime they had an interview with London Warren. He is a "strange" guy. His voice is kind of high too.
They asked him if he had any pregame rituals and he said about 30 minutes before each game he washes his hands to wash his sins off. I don't know if he meant sins as in all the turnovers he's about to commit or sins as in actual personal transgressions.
They asked what his favorite tv show was and he said The Suite Life of Zac and Cody because it's funny and Disney is his favorite channel.
They also asked him if he could have one wish what would it be. He said to win a national championship!

Don't forget Temple. They will likely finish A-10 play with 3 losses and if they do that they are likely A-10 champs. If they win the league they are in. I say the A-10 is already at 3 teams and if a team other then Xavier, Temple or Dayton wins the tourney they will get 4.

Speaking of Duquesne, URI has to go there this weekend. Won't be easy for them, but with Duquesne at 17-9 now, a win there would be a nice RPI boost for them (when has that ever been true before?).

I hate losing, but it's tough to be upset after that one. Two top teams in this league going at it for 45 minutes. Unreal plays by both sides. Rhody just had the ball last, UD gambled on Baron and left the PG to be guarded by Kurt. Guy made an unreal shot.
Shouldn't hurt Dayton won bit in the NCAAs eyes, but it does make the Temple game a must win. They'll win that one by 15 if they bring tonight's effort.

Yeah its even stranger to say that their last game against UMass will be a bigger RPI killer than Duquesne. Heck as of right now Duquesne is still in the Top 100. If Temple and URI win the rest of the reg season games and those two plus XU and UD make the A10 semi's I wonder if we could get 4 teams to the tourney. Right now I'm thinking 3 at the worst, which is something I did not think I would be saying a month ago.

I chuckled when I read that, but then I looked at their remaining schedule: Temple, @ Xavier, Duquesne. 1-2 isn't unlikely, and even 0-3 isn't out of the question. Given the atrocious non-conference schedule, I think they need to win 2 of 3 to feel completely safe.

you know what, I thought the same thing, but you might be right. I see them losing to us and Temple, and if they lose their first A10 tourney game, they will not be feeling comfortable on Selection Sunday. Their wins against us and Marquette still might be enough to get them in as one of the last 4 in this situation, but this is what happens when you play a soft schedule like UD did. It will cost you if you dont take care of business in league play.

I Temple and URI keep it up ud is in big trouble. Think about their record over the last 10 games and include losses to both Temple and URI who suddenly place themselves ahead of ud in line for an NCAA bid. There are not four NCAA spots for the A-10, so ud would be S.O.L. under my scenario. Maybe they can have an NIT rematch against tOSU.

For dayton, this is the beginning of the end. Their schedule will kill them from here on out, and they ain't doin anything in the A10 tourney.

But they do say the selection committee looks at individual team profiles, not at how many bids can a league get. Not sure how true that is, but ultimately I do agree with you that 4 teams is a stretch. If Temple wins out reg season and doesn't flame out in their first A10 tourney game they should be in. So that 3rd spot comes down to URI and UD. UD beat Marquette out of conference and URI beat Penn State. Advantage UD. But URI had a tougher out of conference schedule, beat UD head to head, and as of right now will finish above UD in the A10 standings, so overall they have a better case. After all my rambling I guess my main point is what looked like a sure tourney bid for UD a couple of weeks ago, is looking pretty shaky right now if they don't take care of business vs. Temple this weekend.

I would agree with that, although they definitely have slipped a notch or two since beating us. I said about a week ago that I thought UD would win at X on the 5th. The way you guys have been playing is making me re-think that! Plus it looks like we might be getting the swagger back. That could be very bad news for the Flyers.

If Dayton shows up with the same effort and intensity they did tonight and the first Xavier game, the game next Thursday will be a great one. If not, yeah, it will probably be a win for Xavier like UD had a few weeks back. X and UD are very similar in quality and matchup well with each other's weaknesses. The difference in their conference seasons to date is a bucket each way at Rhody. Each at their best would be a classic game. What's scary...if X should lose tomorrow, the loser on the 5th could need a win in their last game just to insure a bye. It's very possible that either Duquesne or SJU winds up with 5 league losses, meaning 5 teams at 11-5 or better. Duquesne at Dayton may well be for 4th place, should the Dukes beat Rhody at home.
But I hope you guys beat SJU tomorrow, and Rhody wins at the Dukes. That would virtually guarantee a UD bye, and lock up a bye for X.

Well, this won't be a popular opinion....I expect to feel the pain for this...but I watched the entire game and while UD choked it away, I was certainly impressed with their heart and intensity. They shot 63% in the first half...3/3 from 3 in the first half....were down by 8. That would deflate a lot of teams...but those GD Flyers.....they showed heart a hell of a lot of heart in the 2nd half.....they should have been toast after being down 8 at half.
I don't like the Criers....but they sure as hell fought against all odds tonight. Free throws sucked...they were playing in Kingston.....I thought a 2nd half fold was coming...hell, 4 on 5 every offensive set that Warren plays...but they kept plugging. X beat that same team by 2 in Kingston....UD lost by 2 in OT.
I'm not sure what the future holds for the Criers....but I put my Xavier blue glasses away and came away pretty impressed by how the Flyers were able adapt and take that game into OT tonight.

It's really a shame Rhody lost just about every game of meaning on their schedule, and a couple they shouldn't have, because I believe they have NCAA caliber talent. They still have a just a sliver of hope.
The flyers were without C Johnson too I guess. And of course Lowery is out. I don't think they're going away, but with two losses in a row there is a lot of pressure on them.

If URI stays ahead of UD in the A10 standings along with their head-to-head victory over them, can the selection committee really justify putting the Flyers in the tourney over URI? I don't see why they should especially since UD played such a soft schedule.

I hate to agree with a Dayton fan, but I don't see us as getting our "swagger" back until we win a game on the road . . . like say, tonight. Home wins over Fordham and GW hardly would qualify as showing proof that our swagger is back.
That said, I see us winning tonight and gaining a little momentum heading into the last week of the season.

I hope someone else watched the highlights during the Dook/Maryland game, they showed the last shot for the win.
If you get a chance watch the last shot and the ensuing celebration. Huelsman throws an elbow at an onrushing URI player AND a trainer. It's not vicious or anything, but I don't doubt he knew what he was doing. Nice. What a loser.
I HATE dayton.
I saw that but it looked like he was just trying to get thru the crowd. Throwing elbows is just a natural reaction for that guy.

Agreed. He wasn't purposely throwing elbows . . . he's just highly uncoordinated.

HA! If we get 4 teams in the tourney I want a camera at UC's and Syracuse's viewing parties just to see Mick's and Boeheim's reaction.
Are you telling me that Syracuse would not win the Big Sky Conference?

If URI stays ahead of UD in the A10 standings along with their head-to-head victory over them, can the selection committee really justify putting the Flyers in the tourney over URI?
Yes........

I think if you're a Dayton fan, you've got to be pulling hard for both X and Marquette. Marquette has been their signature win, and while they played well even without James last night, they could easily skid out the rest of the way with that injury. Which would obviously lessen Dayton's profile.

NEWSFLASH - When you play at Xavier on the 5th, it's going to be on the road. They're not relocating the Cintas Center to Dayton (that town wouldn't know what to do with a building like that).
You're 2-3 in your last five. The two road losses you mentioned and the game before us at Charlotte. So you've lost three straight road games. You're 2-0 at home during that stretch, with one being a close win over Richmond. Other than the win against us (and we haven't been too good on the road lately) I think "the way you've been playing" is a pretty obvious comment.
I think it's going to be a good game between X and UD. In case you missed it, my original prediction was that Dayton would win. So I obviously think you have a decent team. But, with your recent road woes and the way X plays at home, I'm starting to reconsider. Add in the fact that it looks like X might be getting back to tough defense and team ball - things that helped them early in the year - the odds are really not going in your favor.
As for the swagger...yes, they might be getting it back even though they have only beaten Fordham and GW recently. There seemed to be a little more bounce in their step on Sunday and they seemed to be enjoying themselves a little more, especially at home. We'll see if they have totally regained their confidence and swagger tonight. The Hawks will be a tough test on the road.

My point is this: I'm disappointed that we lost our last 2 on the road but not necessarily disappointed with the way we are playing. Just goes to show you how hard it is to win on the road in any league. Unfortunately, if we play like we did last night at X, it doesn't guarantee victory, just guarantees that it will be a good entertaining game.

If you weren't disappointed in the WAY we played against Charlotte, I don't think you watched the game. It was terrible. Charlotte is bad. We couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. We played like sissies excluding Jamel McClean.
In fact, I'll go on record as saying that is one of the worst performances I've seen under Sean Miller, which have not been many at all.
With that said, everything will change tonight. This is a top 25 team when we lock down defensively.

Trust me, I was disappointed in that Charlotte game. In fact, that was the game that made me think UD could beat us. But seeing how they perform on the road and how comfortable our guys are at home, I'm rethinking it.
Tonight will be a huge test for X and, if we pass it, I would assume the guys are back to their early-/mid-season form.
