I'm already ready to vomit as the Cincy media slobbers all over Huggiebear again. So I'm speculating (and hoping someone can let me know if I'm right or not) that Huggins did not do as well his last 4 yrs @ UC as Miller has done his first 4 @ X with regards to the NCAA tournament. It seemed like UC was always one and done.
We missed in 2005,
Lost in round two to Zags in 06,
Lost (got jobbed by refs) to OSU in 07,
Elite 8 in 08.
Can anybody help me out here? Thanks.

Huggs went 3-4 in the NCAA Tournament during his last 4 years at UC. He was out each year in the first weekend (never past the Field of 32).

Miller is 4-3 in his first 4 years at XU with an Elite 8 apperance.

Huggs never made the Elite Eight during his final 9 years at UC, and made only one Sweet Sixteen appearance during that time. He was 9-9 in his final 9 seasons.

If you compare Xavier's past 7 full seasons (Miller's entire time at XU, including as Associate Head Coach) to Huggs' last 7 seasons at UC, XU is 9-6 during the 7 seasons that include Miller with two Elite Eights, and Huggs is 7-7 with one Sweet Sixteen.

Another way to look at it is that Xavier has been better over the past 7 seasons than UC under Huggins during his final 9 seasons.

TALE OF THE TAPE:

XAVIER (under Miller and Matta)
Seasons: 7
NCAA Record: 9-6
Best Finish: Elite Eight (twice)

CINCINNATI (final 9 years under Huggins)
Seasons: 9
NCAA Record: 9-9
Best Finish: Sweet Sixteen (once)

To be fair, Huggins had a phenomenal 5-year stretch just before those final 9 seasons.

From the 1991-92 season through the 1995-96 seasion, UC's postseason results look like this:

Seasons: 5
NCAA Record: 11-5
Finishes: one Final Four, two Elite Eights, one Field of 32, one first round exit

I really believe that Coach Miller has positioned Xavier for a similar type of 5-year run, with last season being the first year of that run.

Of course, a lot of things can happen between now and then, but if you look at the past two seasons (including this year, which was considered a rebuilding year by many due to losing our entire backcourt) and you look at our current recruiting level (which Miller has upgraded substantially) it's a pretty damned exciting time to be a Musketeer fan.

And no wins over a higher seeded team. Hugs is one of the most overated and bloated coaches in the country. Oh yeah, UC sucks.

Not at UC, at least. Huggins did win as a lower seed at WVU last year against Duke.

All you need to know about Huggs recent history:

Since being tossed by sUCks, he has had the chance to play sUCks twice, and Your Xavier University Musketeers twice. He has lost all four games. That's gotta hurt!!! Here let me offer up a canister of salt to pour into Huggy Bears wounds.

Sean Miller has yet to beat a higher seeded team in the NCAA Tournament (I think we were the 8 and BYU the 9; correct me if I'm wrong). Despite that, I think he's done okay.
