I think it just goes to show the troubles of playing on the road. It's tough to play on the road whether it be the A-10 or the Big Easy. Cronin can cry that it is a tougher conference, but all in all, on any given night anyone can pull off the upset.

The way this one's looking, Providence may win this game easy.

Pitt can't ht water from a boat, and Providence is still jacked about mid-way through the 2nd half.

One of those games where you can tell Providence is going to answer anything.

The key to beating Pitt is to get DeJuan Blair in foul trouble early.

3 things

1) I hope you're not one of the people who complains about how the country overreacts when we lose one tough road game.
2) I have been saying for a long long time that Providence has a very solid squad this year, and any team would be incredibly fortunate to win at their place
3) Unless I just don't have my sarcasm hat on, I like how one game not only says something about the team that lost it, but also about a team that wasn't even playing in the game.

I'm sorry, but your post was about as far as you can get from being "on base".

Pitt has never made it past the sweet 16 in school history. If this team fails to get past it will the Pitt fans start blaming Dixon? I know he wins in the regular season but at some point you would think he would need to produce in the tourney. What kind of fans does Pitt have? Expectations? I know at Xavier if they had teams as loaded as Pitt supposedly has had the past few years and then to never reach expectations the XU fans would be out for blood.

It was senior night and Providence has 8 seniors. It's amazing to have 8 seniors and they played like seniors are supposed to play on senior night.

Sorry, I think "incredibly fortunate" is overselling that one. Providence may have a solid team--they are 17-11. But they have lost several at home to good and not so good teams, including to Villanova, Marquette, Notre Dame (by 20!) and Northeastern.

And which one of these is not so good, exactly?

Sure, they probably should have beaten ND and Northeastern, but ND has talent and Northeastern is probably one of the best teams that nobody's heard of this year.

If we played at Providence, I would view it very similarly to the game at LSU.

Seriously?!? Providence is similar to top 20 and 12-1 in the SEC LSU?!? I don't think so.

Yes, those numbers you stated do not back up the argument at all, either.

According to Massey's composite of 42 college basketball ranking systems, LSU is the 26th best team in the country, while Providence ranks 77th (the highest Providence ranks is #61; the lowest LSU ranks is #54). LSU is obviously a tougher place to play, too, since, you know, they haven't lost at home to Northeastern (a respectable #93).

But I can see where you are coming from in thinking going to Providence would be about as tough as going to Baton Rouge.

A closer comparison to Providence is actually Duquesne.

I think winning at Providence would be just as tough as winning at LSU. Deal with it.

But I can see where you're coming from, because LSU beat the number 1 team at home. I just can't remember who was number 1 when LSU beat them at home. Do you remember? Because clearly if I can find one number for one case that makes my argument true then it must be generally true.

Actually, here's a number for you.

Xavier margin @ LSU -> +10
Xavier margin @ Duquesne -> -4

How ya like those numbers?

This is fun.

Winning somewhere that plenty of other teams--including Northeastern, a respectable but not great team--have already won does not equate to being "incredibly fortunate" in my book. But maybe you and I have different views of what that means.

Now, if you were to say that Butler was "incredibly fortunate" to win at Cintas--against a top 25 team, in the only home loss of the year--I'd say that's probably an apt descriptor.

I like making completely unsupportable claims that are actually contrary to all factual evidence.

Understood.

That definitely hurts UC in the Big East pecking order; Providence now has a signature win on top of a sweep of the Bearcats. If they can't beat West Virginia (MOR's "everything went wrong" game for the Mountaineers) Thursday night, they can start printing NIT tickets.
