Dayton's announcers are hilarious with the refereeing.
"It's gotta be dayton ball, nooooo."
I hope one of St. Louis' guards pulls a Mack in the waning minutes.

I would feel differently if Dayton was a bubble team.
But they are not a bubble team. A loss against SLU won't keep them from the tourney. In contrast, I root against UC.

I've been watching the conversation board on ESPN.com. No wonder everyone refers to Dayton as athe Cryers! They fricking whine about everything!! They think St Louis has homer refs, that they NEVER commit a foul. Sorry Guy38, don't have it in me to hope they win. I'm with Thor, I HATE DAYTON and I want them to lose every freaking game!:p

Why should we pull for Dayton?
They are not a bubbble team so a loss would not knock them out of the tourney.
They are ahead of X in the A-10 standings so if they lose they come back toa tie with X at the top of the league. Go Billikens!

They have won 6 out of 7. The could hit the A-10 tourney winning 9 out of 10.
If they win out and go 11-5 they have a chance at a bye.

Yes I love, Dayton loses to SLU, they should have lost to them the first time too.....but both teams sucked at the 3's tonight...UD was 2 for 13 while SLU was 3 for 15...

Xavier is not playing very well right now. Has a lot of work to get done. But while they're going through this rough patch (I hope it's just a patch - though the point guard issues seem to be systemic), they did have solid wins throughout much of the season.
Dayton is, however, completely fraudulent.

No team in the league has a winning conference road record. Six teams are 3-3.
Conventional wisdom says it's hard to win on the road, but that's taking it to an extreme.

Yes.
I'm sick of my friends who are alumni of the Big Ten complain about the difficulties of their road schedules.
Playing on the road is a difficult task for every College Basketball team, Big Ten or not.

I would definitely cheer for URI on Wednesday - if the suddenly red-hot Rams (who have won 8 of 9) beat Dayton at home, Xavier could have a potential tiebreaker over the Flyers assuming both Xavier and Dayton finish tied in the standings with a season split.
Beating St. Joe's on the road becomes even more essential now - the Hawks are still above SLU at the moment and we could possibly see Temple or even URI backdoor their way into a 1st-place tie.
You'll never mistake me for a Dayton fan, but I'm having trouble getting excited about the Flyers losing to the Bills. Remember when we lost to Charlotte two nights ago? Awesome.
We'll be in first place in the conference, but for how long? Sure we could bury GW tomorrow, but if we go and lay an egg in Philly, we're right back to where we were yesterday.
I just wish this Xavier team would start to impose its will on this freakin conference.

Did anyone else watch the game on the WHIO feed? I had SLU +1.5, so I watched every minute. They had some of the best play by play and color guys I've seen for a local affiliate. The only reason I mention this is that I decided to jog in the rain this afternoon during the UC/Ville game...I listened to the 2nd half on WLW....Chuck whatever his name had me laughing while trying to catch my breath while running he is such a homer. In contrast, the SLU announcers were completely objective. If SLU got a homer call, they openly acknowledged it. It was a breath of fresh air. They couldn't pronounce Huelsman's name correctly, but honestly, who cares?
I came away slightly impressed with SLU, not impressed with UD....but very impressed with SLU's announcers. Later in the night, I was impressed with Abrams from Texas...wow....anybody see what he did in the last 5 minutes of that game? Holy smokes.

I wish I could have seen this game. I don't care if it is good or bad for X in the long run, I just love, love watching that team lose. Alas, I had better things to do than watchimg that suckiness, heck a colonoscopy is more fun than watching dayton. Best part is reading all of the excuses from those idiot "fans". From injuries to illness, to the classic standard that the refs gave it to SLU. I love it. I hope Dayton loses every game, every time.
I HATE dayton.

"That's fine, name calling doesn't bother me in the least. But let's put it all on the table...either it's allowed or it isn't. I got hammered for name calling, apologized and haven't done it since, then I get the person I apologized to throw it back at me. Are we 4th grade girls? From the DDN...
"Dayton junior point guard London Warren called for a players-only meeting on the bus, asking the coaches and other occupants to step outside for a minute so he could share his heart, doing exactly what a team leader is supposed to do."
Awwwww, isn't that just the sweetest thing you've ever heard? Whatever. My feeling is that X got a big break with Dayton's loss last night and they need to take advantage of it. It starts today. Anyone heard of any of our guys calling a "players only meeting"? And it better not be called so BJ can "share his heart". It better be to give his teammates the red-ass if they're not performing.

The announcers loved London Warren last night. They kept calling him the "Jacksonville Jet". Personally, I think he sucks and is way too out of control. I think the fact that he got into foul trouble early against Xavier in the first game at ud actually helped dayton instead of hurting them.
As far as taking advantage of the ud loss, I'm not worried about ud. I think they will lose the rematch versus Xavier and the game at URI. ud has a tough remaining schedule. I'm more worried about Temple, St. Joe's, and URI. Also, St. Louis is playing good ball right now.

I think after the Dayton loss, the Xavier players called a meeting.
I doubt Warren called the meeting to "share his heart", but such a reason was provided by the DDN. He's a junior, so I'm sure he was pissed at the way his team was playing, just like BJ and CJ should be after Thursday night.
I just think it's funny. We laugh at Dayton after they lose, then we go and lose to crappy teams like Duquesne and Charlotte. Yeah, they're crappy.

Good article in the St Louis Post-Dispatch about Majerus turning SLU around.
I thought the comparison was a little over-the-top, but I liked what Majerus was saying:
"I want to acknowledge the students again," Majerus said. "They did a great job. They gave us a big lift. How many times can they get out on the floor? We've got the police line out there. I was looking for the dogs from the Alabama days to bite them as they came through. We should have let them come on the court and enjoy themselves. For paying $46,000 (in tuition) they should. The players went back out. It means a lot to the players to have the students there."

In addition to this, the A10 standings help our seed in the conference tourney, which in turn could help our seed in the ncaa tourney.
Kind of a weird comment, Guy. Our conference position means nothing?

Good find. They are feeling good in St. Louis right now. I would like to see them end the season on a good note. The conference could use a powerhouse in St. Louis. I am not afraid of a little competition.

Still thinking about Guy's argument and couldn't come up with one good reason why the dayton loss was bad for x or the league. UD is in, if they were a bubble team then yes that would be bad for the league not X. Guy's argument would say there is not a team in College Basketball that cares if they win their respective conference.

There were other circumstances as well. It was the first sold out game in the new arena, the student section was packed for the second straight game(big deal @SLU) with most likely drunk kids from mardi gras, it was a close game the whole way, and there is a decent amount of dislike for Dayton who was also a top 25 team.
