Here's a guy who probably should have stuck around at Richmond. I can't imagine that he'll be back at DePaul after this season with his team winless in the Big East and in the middle of getting mashed in the early going at Louisville.
I guess the one plus for him is that if he is ready to retire he'll get to retire with a few extra bucks in his wallet.

I live in Chicago, and grew up a huge DePaul fan before heading to Xavier. A week or two ago, after pressure from fans to fire Jerry (firejerrywainwright.com), DePaul's AD came out and said he'll be back next year. She said bringing in a new coach will only set the program back because they've had so many coaches since Joey Meyer was fired.
I think both Jerry and their AD aren't capable of being successful in the BE. Not only is DePaul winless in conference, but they haven't even come close to winning. Fact is DePaul could clearly care less about men's basketball, from the administration to the alumni or Jerry woul be gone.
The only success Jerry has was with Dave Leito's players. Had DePaul been willing to pay Dave they wouldn't be in this mess. He had the program going in the right direction and best of all led them to an NCAA tourney win over UD.

I grew up in the Chicago area. And I get this same sense.
It's too bad. Chicago starves for an elite college basketball program. Like I've said before on this board, it's understandable why many A10 schools don't invest much into their Bball program. But Depaul is a different matter. An investment into a Chicago based program seems much more like a sure bet.

Wainwright's sticking around because DePaul doesn't want to (or can't) pay him not to coach. They're about where XU was in the pre-Staak years---wanting to be amongst the big boys, but really having a MAAC-level program. They've got to either commit to being big-time, or say goodbye to the Big East.

The only reason why DePuke is in the Big Greased is because of their big brother Marquette ushering their way in when they all left CUSA. If not for that, Xavier would be in.
DePuke deserves all the losing they get. When Bradshaw was the AD, they had one of the most arrogant attitudes in College Basketball and were a big player in messing up the MCC by getting Marquette, St. Louis and the dump to leave to the "Great Midwest" thereby screwing up that league and Xavier just when the MCC was ready to blossom.
Screw DePuke.

Have to disagree with you on this, MOR. DePaul brings the Chicago market, which the BE wanted. XU brings the Cincy market, which the BE already had covered with UC.

Ah, maybe right. I just hate DePuke and I'll randomly take shots at them whenever I can with or without evidence.

I'm OK with you taking shots at DePaul, but I guess I prefer evidence over no evidence.

We feel like we got the raw end of the deal there too.
At least you didn't get kicked out of your conference for not having football.

I do agree with MOR, that Bill Bradshaw was an arrogant ass clown that started the demise of this program. Under Bradshaw the academic performance of the men's basketball program was horrible (while Pat Kennedy was coach) and I believe they even lost a scholarship due to this, and I believe he went to another school (Temple?) and the same thing happened to them. Plus he thought he was bigger than the coach, basically ran Joey Meyer out of town because he couldn't stand the Meyer legacy. Bradshaw made it really difficult for Joey to bring in the type of talent he wanted. They signed a couple big time recruits that met NCAA standards, but not DePaul's, then Depaul had a couple bad seasons and Joey was gone. Then when Bradshaw hand picked Pat Kennedy suddenly the academic requirements were gone, and DePaul was losing scholarships for poor academic performance.
