Nice to see them fight through some adversity, though it was nerve wracking watching the first 30 minutes.
Last 10 minutes was like watching old pros!
Good offensive output from all positions.
Mostly I was impressed with April Phillips, and I get more excited about her game very time I see X play. Especially her skill handling the ball.
In the 1st half, with about 2 minutes to go, she was just abotu 4 feet from the basket, closely guarded, made a move towards the free throw line, then headed back to the basket with a spin move and put it on the glass and in.
Then at time expired, she bolted towards the basket, took a tipped pass from the baseline and laid it in just like she was by herslef on the floor. Amazing talent really starting to shine!
Great game, now how in the world can XU get more people's bottoms into Cintas for a game?
They are top 20, have 13 wins in a row, and it looked empty today.
I would hope that the local media, both print and electronic, would get on the bandwagon, there's really only 2 successful games in town this winter, and they both start with X!!!
No excuses about so many other things going on.

I took my niece to the game; we met Ta'Shia afterwards for autographs. She said she wished they could get as many people to their other home games as they had today.
We also saw Sean Miller, DBrown and BJ watching the game.
Go X!

Attendance listed as 2,371 and a number of those in the stands gained entry by donating a canned good item!
I love the energy of Dee Dee Jernigan abd the "waterbug-ness" of Special Jennings. April Phillips is a real gem and Tudy Reed does so many things that sometimes don't show up in a box score.
Next year could also be gangbusters!

Dayton had 20 of their points in the first 4 minutes of each half, but after that their shots seemed to stop falling. It also helped that Xavier was finally able to loosen Dayton's zone with some outside shots, something they couldn't do in their last 3 games against the Flyers.
Oh and Amber also dressed for today's game but didn't play. We're getting closer to seeing her back in action it would seem.

I noticed that X-band, the announcers mentioned it as the game got started. Several times when they spun the camera towards her and explained her situation you could see a little gleam in her eyes, like she was starting to get the feeling. I was hoping Coach would put her in, but glad he's being patient!
I see the 2371, that's nice, but,,,,,,,,, Wouldn't it be nice to get 3 or 4 thousand?? There's only 2 home games left!!! It would certainly be a great way to honor Jerry and Tudy for their efforts as the lone seniors, if there could be a full lower level for the Fordham game and senior day!

Firmly now with XU!
Wow, second straight win by 20 over a traditionally strong conference rival.
I listened and watched, the pink looked great on TV! Mike did mention that Amber was in the lay-up line ...hmmmm...wonder how close "the comback might be."
Especially impressed with April, Dee Dee and Special today. Dee Dee was on fire in the first half and Special took over in the second. Nice games by both, Mike said they were both one off the career high.
April gets another double double and I thought really was able to out muscle the Flyers.
Not to overlook Tashia who made some great passes out the double and triple teams to create for her teammates.
Two really solid outings in a row! I hope they can keep it up. Could roll into the NCAA on a 19-game win streak. That would perk some people up.
On a cautionary note, Dayton is going to be very good next season.

Go X!Frease, Redford, Love, and Coach Mack were also there. This was the first women's game I've been to this year. I had forgotten how annoying the PA announcer is. I felt like I was at a WWE or monster truck event.

The next home game is going to be mostly kids in attendance since it's a Field Trip game (noon tip on Wednesday afternoon), but the Fordham game will be a good opportunity for one last attendance draw.

Great game by the ladies! It seemed like UD was getting every bounce their way in the first half. Special really came through to break open the game in the middle of the second half with a couple of 3's and drives to the hoop. I loved the full court pressure move by Kevin out of the UD time-out, too. UD had to burn another one right away because they couldn't inbound the ball, which took them down to 1 left with about 6 or 7 minutes to play.
I saw Jamel, CJ, Brian, and Stephen there as well. I think there was one other player, but they were across the arena and I couldn't see him clearly. It was great to see the guys supporting the ladies!

XU mens players have always been very supportive, that's mone of the good things about our school.
Not so supportive is the Enquirer, again, did they not know there was a game?? Not even a mention of the game in the online edition.
Anyone catch local TV coverage?
here's text of a note I wrote to beat writer Shannon Russel, on one of her blogs
"On another topic Shannon, as the XU beat writer, can you answer a question?
How in your right minds can you folks at the Enquirer sports department continue to completely ignore XU women's basketball
They are a top 20 program, had 12 straight wins going into sunday's game vs in state in conference rival Dayton, yet you continue to turn a cold shoulder to the program.
Part of your responsibility is to inform people, and by covering the games you would inform people that this is a quality program worth going to see. It's like there's a group of old fat white men running things at the scheduling meetings on a daily basis and they are still casting off women's sports as girls games played in saddle shoes and hoop skirts. Nearly 2400 people were in the seats to watch a very entertaining game, it's one of the few entertainment and sports bargains in our area, time for you people at Enquirer Sports to get off your butts and do your jobs."
I certainly don't expect a response, I do expect better from the paper though. Sad, very very sad.

I agree about all of those ladies. Tudy had one play yesterday that the play by play says "layup" but it was anything but. She was in essence pinned under the backboard and managed to leap thru 2-3 defenders and get a shot off, making it, and completing the "and one". It was a huge play at a tense time. She seems to have a real propensity to do something huge at a critical time.
Well done by all against a team that traditionally gives them fits. And BBB is correct, Dayton is young, and talented. They will be a thorn for the next few yrs.
In case anyone is interested, they are showing a replay of the XU/UD game right now.
