Per Shannon Russel's Enquirer blog:
Yesterday UC coach Mick Cronin responded to Joe Lunardi's assertion that seven Big East teams would make the NCAA Tournament, and the Bearcats weren't one of them at this point.
Said Cronin: "To me, that's ridiculous. I would tell Joe Lunardi he needs to buy the ESPN Full Court package. Are you telling me that Syracuse wouldn't win the A-10? Does somebody want to give me that answer? I'd like to have that argument with somebody.
"You're going to tell me that Syracuse, with their McDonalds's All-Americans and their talent, would not win the A-10? They're eighth in our conference. For us to not get at least eight is only a byproduct of us beating up on each other and being penalized for having too good of a conference."
I have never minded Mick Cronin because he seems to be a better guy than Huggy Bear. But after reading his recent string of quotes, I am starting to see him as nothing more than an excuse maker. UC is nowhere near the kind of program it was 10 years ago, and in my opinion Cronin has had enough time to begin righting the ship.
Would UC win the A-10? No, because they couldn't beat Xavier on their home court in an intense rivalry game ala this week's game at UD. UD looks like a much better team than UC. Thoughts?

I said this elsewhere, Mick Cronin needs to stop worrying about what a talking head on TV and Radio says and start worrying about making his team better. Joe Lunardi does not have a say in the tournament selection process. So why on earth do you even care what he thinks or says. You are also providing bulletin board material to not just one team but a whole group of teams. Let's say you get into a post season tournament. You may have to play an A-10 school. Why then would you give them bulletin board material? This is one of the dumbest things you can say.

And why is he constantly bashing the A10, only becuase one of their members, who is local, was invited into his arena, and he promptly lost to them? Because he knows he can feed into Doc's obsession with disparaging the A10 every chance he gets?
I mean there are other non BCs conferences, take the Mountain West for example, Lunardi's giving them 4 slots.
Hmm, I know ESPN runs that simulaion tool for helping people make out their brackets, is that always available? I mean lets run Xavier through a simulated Big East schedule (let's use UC's for fairness), and then run Cincinnati through a simulated A10 schedule (let's use ours for fairness). I suppose to humor Mick we should run Syracuse through a simulated A10 schedule, Let's make it a real fun schedule too, like Xavier, Dayton, St. Joes, and Temple, St Louis all road games, we'll give then GW, Forhman, St Bonnies, and La Salle at home.
I know, that would be investing way too much work, and humoring Cronin. That said, anytime Cronin wants to buy me an ESPN Full Court Package, bring it on!

I never saw exactly wha he said until now and let me tell you, what a douche bag. I cant wait for UC to get killed in their upcoming schedule once they start playing BEast teams in the top half.

I thought Sean's response in Shannon Russell's blog this afternoon was very classy. Also he references his playing days in the Big East which is a very subtle way of reminding Mick he is not as big time as he thinks he his.

I posted this elswhere but thought it was worth repeating.
I like it... It wasn't fun not hating UC's coach. Let's see how UC responds to playing real Big East games. Not against teams that are on their way down.
Let's put UC's Big East "success" into perspective this year. Here's how teams UC has beat in the Big East have played over their last 12 games.
Rutgers 1-11 over their last 12
Depaul 0-12 over their last 12
St. Johns 3-9 over their last 12
Georgtown 4-8 over their last 12
Notre dame 4-8 over their last 12
Georgetown4-8 over their last 12
St. Johns 3-8 over their last 12
19-65 or an impressive 22.6%.
My point is UC might be 7-5 in the Big East at right now but let's see where they are after they play their next four (syracuse, louisville, pitt and wvu). If they win one... I'll be surprised. Mick is trying to sell the program... anyone with half a brain can look at who UC has played and know they haven't beat a quality opponent yet in the big east.
God bless the little guy for ignoring the facts.

And so are the slobbering empty talking heads- Mo and Lance.
BTW. Nice pump job on the St. Johns game. All those guys could do for three days was jock SucKs trying to get a crowd. Attendance including feebies?- About 8,200. 2,000 less than XU's average.
That fanbase is really turning out, huh?

But Nancy has not left Cincinnati yet. When she really leaves, then they will show up (note the sarcasm).
Mick Cronin is a bitch. He is tiny and he cries a lot. I think I like Huggs more than Mick.

Here is his non-sense...
To me, that’s ridiculous,” said UC coach Mick Cronin. “I would tell Joe Lunardi he needs to buy the EPSN Full Court package. Are you telling me that Syracuse wouldn’t win the A-10? Does somebody want to give me that answer? I’d like to have that argument with somebody.

I was actually starting to "pull" for this turkey!
Hopefully after all of us send letters to the editor, that Munchkin Man, changes his tune! Clearly living in the land of OZ!
We beat them on their court. UD beat Marquette. But Syracuse would win the A-10???
Why start crap like this! NO CLASS.

Haha, you missed it on here too. There was already a couple threads about it. No big deal though. It was indeed crap.

Checked the last 3 pages, thought for sure I didn't need to look back further for comments on this. Oh well - rarely miss a day - clearly cannot afford a day off. ☺

Wow, what a stupid comment to make. Syracuse very well could finish third or even second in the A10, but to say they'd easily have first place wrapped up? Ludicrous. Xavier and Dayton could both take the Cuse... Maybe even Temple or St. Joe's on a better day.

I saw some idiot on Shannon's Blog stating that Cronin's comment was true, even detailing more what would happen if Syracuse played in the A-10. I did some really quick research this morning and responded ...
Syracuse would blow out every team in the A10 except Xavier and Dayton and they would beat them 80% of the time. The only reason this caused a stir is because it was true and the truth hurts.
Let's see, it's tough to prove your premise this season since Syracuse only played one A-10 team. They squeaked by Richmond 76-71 this season AT THE CARRIER DOME.
That's just one game, but it's difficult to believe they would run the A-10 table -- even when discounting Xavier and Dayton -- when they barely beat the 10th place team in the A-10 this season AT THE CARRIER DOME.
That said, we don't have to look very far to test this theory futher since Syracuse played 5 A-10 teams -- none of which were Xavier or Dayton -- just last season.
They beat St. Joe's by 3 AT THE CARRIER DOME (you might be sensing there's a theme here).
They then beat Fordham by 14 AT THE CARREIR DOME as well.
They then lost to UMASS by 7 AT THE CARRIER DOME again.
Three games later they lost to Rhode Island by 2 AT THE CARRIER DOME again.
And they closed out their season losing by 4 to UMASS in the NIT Quarterfinals.
Oh, and guess where that game was played? It was AT THE CARRIER DOME again.
In fact, Syracuse lost only 4 games all of last season against non-conference opponents, and 3 of those losses were against the Atlantic 10.
So just one season ago, Syracuse was 2-3 against the A-10 ... despite only playing teams they would ALWAYS beat ... despite not having to play Dayton or Xavier ... and despite playing EVERY one of those games against A-10 teams AT THE CARRIER DOME.
Kinda hurts when the truth comes right back and bites in the rear, doesn't it, Diddy (or Mick, for that matter)?
---------
Just shows the ridiculousness of Mick's statement and any of the UC contingent who happen to believe him. I gave Syracuse a 20% chance of winning the A-10. Perhaps I was being too generous.
Here are some other notes about Syracuse's record last season:
OVERALL: 21-14
BIG EAST CONFERENCE PLAY: 9-9
ALL NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENTS: 12-4
ATLANTIC 10 OPPONENTS: 2-3 ...
... ALL AT THE CARRIER DOME
Ouch, Mick! Ouch, buddy!
I've even seen posts from UC fans talking about how Syracuse would blast through the A-10 every single season.
What a damned stupid statement to make, huh Mick?
