wow that clip really annoys me. "wasn't long ago they were going to be the next gonzaga." what the HELL does that mean?!?! They had 3 good (not great) seasons, and their supposed best of those they were an 8 seen in the tourney!! So every time an A-10 team puts together a couple of good years, they are going to be the "next gonzaga"?? I would say that not long ago they were going to be the next team to have a couple of good seasons because of great players, and then succumb to the limits of their coach. I know the Gonzaga issue has been debated on here ad nauseum, so I won't even get into the fact of having to be compared to them, as opposed to say, other great teams in GW's own conference (X, Temple).

I hate GWU.

Can't wait for tomorrow. I hope we destroy them so bad that they just drop to the NAIA.

Hobbs is screwing up.

When GW was good, they had cultivated a really nice international recruiting pipeline. It is perfect for them because of the international nature of the city that they are located in. Overseas kids would love to come to DC with the Embassy support. Hobbs seems to have totally disregarded and trashed that pipeline.

He'd either better start getting good players from DeMatha or other DC/Baltimore area schools or re-establish those international contacts.

you guys remember Mescheriakov for GW back in the late 90? His younger bro plays up the street at G'town...

G-W is a big time puzzle right now. Very sad.

I miss the good old days when Paul Daugherty would trash Xavier students for their U-S-A chants during the GW games. Tom Penders was the coach who started to ignore the pipeline; I thought Hobbs would go back in that direction but I guess not.

Tom Penders

Damn this league has had some disastrous encounters with has been and never really were retreads like that clown Penders. Bob Hill, Jim Harrick (immediate success but long-term program destruction), Danny Nee and Rat Face Lappas all come to mind.

I loved the U-S-A chant, and took part in a few of those myself during my days in the student section. :)

My favorite, though, had to be "Sit Down! Shut Up!" whenever Huggins or Mike Jarvis would start whining at the refs. I think we chanted that almost the entire game during the Shootout my freshman year: the infamous Huggins-Gillen no-handshake game.

Chants shouted in Karl Hobbs' direction last night:

Shut up Karl! (every time he argued with a ref)

Unemployment! (as he walked across the student section)

Not a chant, but at one point he was almost to midcourt yelling at his players. It was quiet enough (right after a free throw) that I could be heard on the court yelling "Get back in your box Hobbs, or I'll come down there and move you myself!"

that got a chuckle from a ref.

That bush league asshole headed for the locker room with ten seconds left on the clock.

You hate Dayton, I hate Gwash.

Sorry to say but the best USA chants came my sophomore year during a volleyball game against Louisville. Louisville's team was primarily foriegn so we started chanting U-S-A. Turns out the U of L coach didn't like the chant so he stopped play and had Floyd come over to us to make us stop.
