They lost their third in a row tonight, this time to Miss. St. They really don't have too many quality wins on their schedule. As much as I would love to completely ruin them in the tournament, it doesn't look like this is going to be their year. How long until they start calling for old powder nose Billie G's job.

ND vs. Kentucky would be a nice NIT matchup. Winner plays Georgetown.

Ha!!!
I'm not a big fan of Rupp. The facilities are supposedly weak. Kentucky has no natural recruiting base.
Could it possibly be a program on the decline? Do they need a coach like Calipari to save them?

Billy G still hasn't signed a contract. They could fire him tomorrow and owe him nothing beyond the fiscal year. He's not safe.

They never agreed to terms on the buyout and other clauses. He's working on a renewable one year "agreement" right now. Obviously there is intent to work out a contract, but if he misses the dance...who knows.

I haven't been able to get a straight answer on whether the one-year deals are at Gillespie's insistence or at UK's insistence. (Of course, I'm only asking UK fans, so it's no wonder.)

Wow!!! that really surprises. Coaches really are considered the geniuses of College Basketball and Football. Coaches typically set the terms of the contracts and then violate them when another opportunity arises.
I know Kentucky is a great program. But moving to a different program involves a lot of risks for the coach. It makes sense to entice a coach with a great parachutes (even with a parachute, it seems like more and more coaches, Miller included, are staying with their successful programs and are unwilling to make a risky move to a marginally better program).

Andy Kennedy is a good coach when sober, and he basically showed the world how to shut down Kentucky. They are a 2-trick pony. Meeks has one man on him at all times and 2 on him when he touches the ball. Patterson has 4 men on him when he touches the ball, because his flaw is that he refuses to pass the ball back out. For the rest of the team, just make sure that they aren't shooting lay-ups, and you are golden. Kentucky is pretty awful. The game wasn't nearly as close as the score indicated.
Rupp used to be an intimidating place to play. Now, UGA, winless in conference play, has probably circled the date that they go to Rupp as the one place they might pick up a W. That's sad.

Note to national pundits:
LSU beat both Ole Miss and Mississippi State by 30. Both Ole Miss and Mississippi State beat Kentucky.
Right about now, if Kentucky was good enough to be ranked and was a tourney lock, what about the Tigers?

While switching channels I caught some of the UK pregame show and they were talking about the SEC getting 5 teams in the tourney. 2 and maybe, maybe 3 should be the max this year. Those boys must be smoking something.

I heard that as well. Jimmy Dykes is an SEC homer, so he is going to be a bit biased. Right now, maybe 6 teams have a shot, and things would shift if some oddball team wins the conference tournament again like UGA did last year.
To me, Florida and LSU look to be solid locks. After that, South Carolina is coming along nicely and Tennessee may end up looking OK as well. That is 4 possibles there and that would be the end of my list if the season ended today.
Kentucky is headed in the wrong direction in a hurry, and I don't think they can turn it around. Arkansas was looking good until conference play started, and I think they are toast. Bama, UGA, Auburn, and Vandy are all lacking. That leaves Miss. St and Ole Miss. If either of them finish on a hot streak, they could be considered. AK lost 3 starters to knee injuries and has had to put his team back together, and they are playing pretty well. MSU may be the best 3-point shooting team in country, but they lost a couple of head-scratchers in December when a flu bug hit campus. Even if they finish with 20+ wins, those losses will probably kill them.

Their arguments don't make any sense either. They say that there is no dominant team and no real lock for the tourney at this point, but oh if 3 or 4 go on a run against the other crappy teams in the conference then all of the sudden all of these teams deserve bids, when it is impossible for that many teams to go on a run. 5 seems like a ridiculous number, especially from a conference with no one ranked.

It is all relative. The SEC is Big 6 crappy, but they are not A-10, C-USA, or Mountain West crappy, if you get my drift. According to kenpom.com they have 5 of the top 53 teams even thought none of them are ranked today. That seems to me that they do have a number of teams "in the hunt".

Think if Downey was still at UC. That would be a pretty decent team with a back court of him and Vaughn.

Have you seen Bam Frederick and Devan Downey play this year? I saw them for the first time last night, and I had really forgotten how good Downey is. That dude can ball.

Don't think for a second that it is sitting well with UK fans that their Texas coach has gotten schooled on his home court 2 games in a row by Kentucky kids.
All U of L fans have got to be loving this 3-game skid.

Not that the RPI is the end all.
SEC RPI
19 Tennessee
25 Florida
47 South Carolina
53 LSU
65 Mississippi
75 Kentucky
86 Mississippi St.
107 Vanderbilt
111 Auburn
128 Alabama
222 Georgia
Now granted that's a hell of alot better than the A10, but I think everyone also knows that the SEC didn't play anyone (with few exceptions) OOC. Kinda like (33) Dayton this year.

Not looking good for Squiggy. 12-6 Florida early.

Well it was tied at the half. Squiggy pretty much embarrassed the sideline reporter when she interviewed him prior to going into the locker. Sounded like she pretty much deserved it.
Now it's 36-34 Florida with about 16 minutes left.
And Hodge for Florida just got tossed for a flagrant foul. What a dumbass.

All in all, it is a pretty interesting game. If Patterson is seriously hurt, UK can hang it up for 2009.

Meeks temporarily saves Kentucky's season. Great performance by him the last 3 minutes or so.

I have no problem seeing a Calathes brother choke at the end of the game. They are called FREE throws for a reason.
