He rejected a one year, 25 million dollar deal from the Dodgers today.

I realize the cost of living in CA is high, but come on...

That is all.

He just wants a longer deal. Its not about the money of the one year deal. Althought he is looking for a multi year deal with 25mil each year, but thats a Scott Boras player for you.

He also rejected a 2 year 45 million dollar deal from the Dodgers. So, yes, I woud concur he's a money-grubbing jackoff.

Ya he is looking for a 4 or 5 year deal but there is no way he is going ot get it. I say 3 will be the max anyone gives him. I do wish the Mets would make a run at him especially if its only 1 or 2 years. They have the money and the need but it doesnt seem mangement is interested.

Isn't he 36? No team will give him a 4-5 year contract. No way, not gonna happen.

You are just realizing that Manny is a money grubber? As an Indians fan I learned that 8 years ago.

I'm not gonna hate on someone for wanting to get paid. If someone is willing to pay him whatever it is he wants, then more power to him.

Where have you been? We're ripping on celebs today. See the "That's Creepy" thread.

No, we were ripping on - specifically - Hollywood celebs. Or at least I was. I'd listen to Man Ram way before I'd listen to Ashton Kutcher.

That said, Manny has put himself in an interesting situation. He was dumb not to take 2yrs, $45mil. But whatever.

Manny is a moronic cancer.

He wasnt when he went to the Dodgers, why would they want him back so bad? The only thing keeping a team, other than the Red Sox, from signing Manny is the years he wants, and the money for smaller market teams. I would LOVE to have Manny.

For?

Another .300avg season with 35 homers and over 100 rbi's?

The guy can certainly hit. That doesn't keep him from being clinically insane.

Every team wants a guy who completely changes your team. He can single handedly make a decent team the favorite in their division. Pitchers FEAR Manny. He is a game changer.

Oh I'm not arguing he isnt insane. I agree with you. I just dont think he is a clubhouse cancer like you ststed earlier.

I was thinking that, but I would also think you more than anyone should love Manny or at least not hate him. You really think that Boston wins those rings without Manny?

Not a Chance.

I'm a New York Football Giants fan. I hate that Plaxico was an idiot and shot himself in the leg. What a moron and he let the team down. The Giants could have repeated with him playing. But whatever happens with Plax from here on out I will never hate him. He was instrumental in the Giants winning the Super Bowl and I will forever love him for that.

I'm not really a Sox fan. Living here I've just been privvy to the daily soap opera that is Manny Ramirez.

Manny is a moronic cancer.

Agreed. And next to Prince Fielder, he is the sloppiest dressed athlete playing any sport today. Pathetic.

The way he handled Varitek's situation was awesome. Turning down $10 million to get him $5+ million. Varitek should not pay him his share (even though Varitek is overrated and will most likely be worse next year).

This is a pretty good, in-depth article about the whole Manny situation in Boston by Bill Simmons.

I am a Sox fan (in NY) and I love Manny, despite what happened last year. Remeber that the Sox basically control the media in Boston so don't believe everything you read in the Globe or hear on WEEI. I blame Boras and Sox management first and Manny second. The man can hit, and some team will pay him. I wish it were the Mets so I could go watch him crush balls in the new park the same way I could go see Pedro pitch a few years ago.

Both NY teams and Washington are going out of their way to say they're not interested in Manny - if Scott Boras was trying to use those teams as leverage for contract negotiations with the Dodgers (or Angels?), he can't do so anymore.

"Manny's contract was set to expire after the 2008 season, with Boston holding $20 million options for 2009 and 2010. Boras couldn't earn a commission on the option years because those fees belonged to Manny's previous agents. He could only get paid when he negotiated Manny's next contract. And Scott Boras always gets paid."

This pretty much says it all.

For all the odd behavior (and some of it incredibly selfish), all his teamamtes through the years say the same thing, no one works harder and all in all Manny is a good guy.

True...but he sure can rake.
