Bearcats fans now have no excuse to have 8,000 people to show up for Big East games against top 25 teams.

The question is: Will UC continue on the path Nancy set, i.e. strengthening the academic programs? Will the athletic program stay true to its mission of developing good students as well as good athletes?

I know there was, and is, and probably forevermore shall be some hard feelings between their basketball fans and Nancy Zimpher, but I'd have to say overall she is leaving the school a lot better off than she found it.

But you're right, to all those fans who said "I'm not spending another dime until she's gone!", tickets are still available to Notre Dame tomorrow night!

I am hoping that the beat Notre Dame.

Go Cats!

Nancy was destined to be gone. She was a Myles Brandish hit-woman brought in to do the deed.

Will she still put out her calendar?

Love that red dress.

I blame Bush.

She was hired to do a hit job on the scum that was infecting that university. I think she did a fine job.

I don't follow the whole UC thing very closely, but she must have done a pretty good job. In order to go from a 30,000 student system to a 300,000 student system she must have done alot more positive things than just fire the deadbeat basketball coach. The fact that she is being rewarded w/ such a promotion has got to just eat up those Thuggins fans that hate her so much.

yeah, but they'll just argue that she is getting rewarded for doing a hatchet job that no one else wanted to do.

I wonder if Eastside Jay is moving his "Fire Nancy Zimpher" campaign to New York.

That Bob Huggins will return to take the place of Nancy Zimpher?

Don't laugh, I bet that there would be any number of UC fans that would actually think that would be a good idea!

Have any of the Huggy fanboys bothered to check how he's doing at West Virginia? If he's as good as they all think, shouldn't WV be battling for the top spot in the Big East? He's got his WV team a half game ahead of UC in conference play. Before he left UC, I was saying that I didn't think he'd do all that well in the Big East. So far, it looks like I'm right.

I'm no fan of Huggins, but he went to the Sweet 16 last year and then lost to one of the top teams in the country in overtime in the next game.

They're certainly not at the top of the Big East, but UWV is a good team. And they're certainly better than UC...I don't care what the records say.

I'm no fan of Huggins, but he went to the Sweet 16 last year and then lost to one of the top teams in the country in double overtime in the next game.Agreed. I'm just saying that those over in Clifton who think they'd be dominating the Big East like they did CUSA if Huggins was still there are sadly mistaken. Would they be better than they are right now? Sure. Would they be dominating like they used to? Not a chance.

Who gives a shit? She planted seeds at UC that are beginning to bear fruit in terms of facilities and campus improvement. I think she did a fantastic job. The fact that this city is full of toothless mouth-breathing hillbillies in thrall to a 400-pound drunk is not her fault.

Unless, of course, you believe the basketball program is the entire university, which the majority of these talk radio idiots do.

I keep on hearing about how much UC has improved. So much so, that part of me is skeptical.

At the undergraduate level, has UC begun to pull students away from Ohio State and private schools like Xavier? What campus improvements has her administration made? UC has always had great grad school programs. What has she done to improve them?

I guess I'm kind of a skeptic of the whole, "UC sucked 5 years ago, but Zimpher made it into a great institution."

She pissed off the fans, by how she treated their coaches. It's a big deal for them. If you think otherwise, fine.

I don't give a damn who she and Wyler upset. And please, the woman was hired to do more than fire or buyout a basketball coach.
Huggins pulled a power play and lost big time. And remember, he was not fired. He acepted a $3-million buyout of yours and my tax money.
My only complaint is she could have fired him for cause after the second dui. Remember, the man recruited a rapist and gave ag scholarship to a convicted felon.
I don't give a damn what their basketball record is, the University of Cincinnati no longer carries the stigma of "Outlaw School" that it did when Huggins was riding high. The dynamic duo of Huggins and Jacuzzi Joe Steger did more harm to the UC name than all of their predecessors combined.

Ya I agree with this. Getting rid of the thug stigma is a hell of an accomplishment.

All the talk about improvement to the campus is true, its gonna be pretty nice when all plans of renovation and new facilities are in. She did also improve academic expectations... hence the reason I am currently working and waiting for next fall.

But as to if they are taking quality students from ohio state and xavier... don't know about OSU, but I went to UC because Xavier has standards for their students.

I went to grad school at UC in the early 2000s. The campus was a complete mess, a brutal concrete jungle. Facilities generally sucked. The whole thing was like going to school in Stalinist Russia. I go back to campus maybe 2-3 times a year for functions involving my school and every time there's some improvement, either subtle (the sloping lawn behind McMicken Hall) or outrageous (the apartment/shops complex on Calhoun that has transformed an unsafe blight into a vibrant area for students) that impresses me.

I would say that the alterations to campus proposed during the Zimpher period are as revolutionary and important to UC as the removal of the streets running through XU's campus and the creation of quads.

And if their douchebag fans don't like it, then they are unable to appreciate that the school is more than a basketball team, and that a basketball program is more than a coach.

As I said many times in the days of the Steger/Goin/Thuggins regime.

I do not believe that anywhere in the Mission Statement for the University of Cincinnati is there a reference to the basketball program. I would guess that there are some references to academic achievement and service to the community. Seems as if Ms. Zimpher had her priorities in order.

I am amused by the fact that those who criticize Ms. Zimpher for "destroying" the basketball program won't give her any credit for building up the football program.

Myopic douchebags.

I think that summarizes up their fan base perfectly. Screw academics or football or the P&G-Business school Co-op program or the Lindner business school because God damn our basketball team sucks.
