A couple of my friends and I are going to go to Argosy on Superbowl Sunday, that is how interested we are in this game.
It's going to be a slaughter, the commercials are going to suck, and I don't feel like explaining what a defensive holding call is to yet another clueless girl.
I have a feeling that I will have a better time on Superbowl Sunday than about 98% of the population.

I agree with that. You would think that they would have a class to teach women all about sports and the rules to them. At least a sports rule class is something that the ladies could make more use out of than the sewing, which I've never done a day in my life, which I learned in home economics in h.s.

You wanna bet? The G-MEN will make you eat your words. I wish you were someone who knew something about football, because that would just be more bulletin board material for the best road team in NFL history. Luckily the Giants dont have to play the superbowl at home. This superbowl will be a good one. Finally the 2 weeks before the Superbowl for me will not be worthless. I will be relishing every moment. 14 1/2 dogs too. Bet the Giants and bet big. Lock of the year.

D-West, I understand you are a fan of the Giants. I can respect that.
But you are so totally overmatched, outclassed, and seriously out of your league it is scary.
Your defensive backfield is bad. Brady will eat you up all night.
I really mean it. This is a terrible, terrible SuperBowl. I have no dog in this fight. I really don't like the Pats, and don't care either way about the Giants.
I am being impartial here. There is a reason why the line started out at 2 touchdowns plus. This is an overmatch if there ever was one (on paper).

Thats really interesting considering the score of the last game was 38-35, and that was with the Pats having everything to play for and the giants having absolutely nothing to play for. You are right there is a reason the line is that big, its to even out the betting so that there is even betting on both teams. Ask Brett Favre if the Giants secondary is terrible. Ask Greg Jennings and his 1 catch. As Ryan Grant how the Giants D is. Ask Al Harris how terrible Eli and Plax are. The fact that you say that the Giants are outclassed by an organization that employs Rodney frickin Harrison, and one that has been reprimanded by the league for cheating makes everything you say completely less credible.

I'm sorry Poz, I really am.
None of the casual fans care. Sure, the last game was close, but as the Pats said themselves, they didn't really care about going undefeated, sure as the Giants didn't care to end that streak. It's moot.
I know and can tell you are a very big fan. I love it. I do. Damn straight back your team. And yes, I will be rooting for the Giants from the boat.
But I will be highly, highly surprised to see the Giants make a game of it.

HAHAHAHAHA! The Pats didnt care about going undefeated!!? C'mon someone jump in here with me to tell Thor he is crazy. Regardless of me being a Giants fan that statement is ridiculous. Bruschi actually said himself it was something they really wanted. And of course they did, who could blame them. Any team in that situation would want to go undefeated. They are quick to say it wont mean anything if they dont win the superbowl, and they are correct. This Superbowl will be close, and people who bet the Giants with that spread will make money. Also, you couldnt be more wrong when you say the casual fans dont care. Perfection is on the line. The casual fan cares more now than ever! That is why this years superbowl commercials are commanding the most money they ever have for a 30 sec spot. Because they will be getting a market they dont usually get, the person who doesnt care about ftball but is tuning in to see the chance at perfection.

Poz, come on man. That was sarcasm as to whether either team cared about that last game.
Anyways.
I really think there is a ton of fans out there who don't want to see, nor care to hear about it, when the Pats win and complete the perfect season.
I would rather do something else than seeing a Boston team win anything. I am sick and tired of that town. And a New York team as its opponent doesn't help the situation.
I really believe that most of the country is getting sick and tired of Boston and New York in the sports world. This is just another example to compound it. Baseball, football, name it. The rest of the country hates it either way. So why should the rest of us care?

I think Eli has gone through a transformation these playoffs, to a point of no return. His inconsistencies gone. He is the QB we have been waiting for. Is he Peyton Manning? No. Will he ever be? No. Do we need him to be? No. Eli has come into his own. Will he play every game flawless from here on out? Absolutely not. But I think the days of his 50% to sub 50% completion percentage is gone. His 3, 4 ints games are gone. I think the most exciting thing for the Giants these playoffs have been guys who were looked at as busts or done with the Giants have stepped up HUGE! Corey Webster has saved his job these playoffs, Eli Manning is the only QB in the playoffs without an interception, Steve Smith the rookie is coming into his own as being the guy to replace Amani when he decides to leave. Ahmad Bradshaw a 7th round pick is playing awesome. Steve Spagnuolo Giants d-coordinator deserves some sort of award, and unfortunately for giants fans he may get it in the form of a head coaching job with th falcons.

I actually think this will be a good game, and think Thor has been washing his truck in the garage with the engine running. I certainly didn't want to see this matchup, and would have loved to see the Pack win. I also would have enjoyed the Chargers pulling off the upset.
But now that we have this game, with these 2 teams, I think it will actually be a great match up. The hottest road team in football and the undefeated team. I can't blame anyone for not watching, but I think those who don't will miss a good game.
The line is silly right now. I would bet heavy on the G-men and like Thor, I have no dog in this fight. I too am sick of the Boston/NY rivalry, but this being football, I can live with it more than the Sox/Yankmes.

Also, expect to be thinking WTF was that in a ton of commercials. Even DC could have a hot girl every night for the rest of his life with the money that is going to be wasted on bad commercials this year.

Holy shiznitz that is fantastic. I'm sure it's a thrill to go to the Super Bowl at all, but to go when a team you love is competing has got to be one of the most sublime moments in the life of a fan.
Don't worry about missing the commercials. First, they'll be available all over the web. Second, the only reason they are putting so much money into buying the slots is the writers strike has left few shows that people will really watch and the advertisers are desperate. I predict they are putting so much money into buying the spots they'll skip hiring the ad agency and have their teenage nephews produce them, based on their successful Youtube rants. I see a lot of shaky camera work in our future.

Are you sure they wouldn't play some of the commercials on one of the scoreboards at the stadium? Granted, no one's going to leave their seats just to watch commercials on the concourse, but I would imagine that a few of the 30-second spots will be available to the crowd.

Did somebody in this thread actually say that Toomer is better than Welker?
And I'm not so sure about the Giants running game having a clear edge over the Pats.
The fun matchup is going to be Pats o-line vs. giants d-line. Each may be the best in the NFL.
The weird thing about this Super Bowl is that when I lived near NYC, I liked most of the NY teams but didn't really care for the Giants and hated the Jets. My hate for the Jets and their fans when I was young is what led me to be a Pats fan. However, after moving away, each year I seemed to like the Giants more and more, and now it's to the point where I really wouldn't mind them winning on the 3rd.

I wasnt the one who said it, but how could it not be, if anything, at least argued he is better. Welker may be having a better year statistically, but Amani has been doing it for 10+ years. Welker just happens to have his first ever good season the year he teams up with Randy Moss and Tom Brady. You could stick me in the slot on that team and I would catch 60 passes and get 900 yards. He had more yards and TD's his this year than his last 3 combined. You put Amani in the slot on that team he would so the same thing. With all the attention Moss got on defense and also having to respect the downfield speed of Stallworth, anything less that this from Welker would be pathetic. Have you ever noticed he never has anyone lined up over him at the line of scrimmage?

I am taking the hunch bet that my son-in-law hits a double. He is finishing his PhD at LSU and rode the Tigers big time to the BCS NC. He is also from NYC and a huge Giants fan and thinks he is destined to go 2 for 2 this year. He took the G-Men at 13-1 before the play-offs started. I thought he was nuts when he placed the bet, but I forgot about the power of destiny.

You didnt read correctly. It wasnt about who is going to be a bigger factor in this game, it was about who was a better player. And the facts show that Wes Welker hadnt done anything in his 3 previous years in the NFL and then all of a sudden he has a great year. Reason: Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Dante Stallworth. All of the 3 previous have had great seasons without Wes Welker, Wes Welker hasnt done anything without those 3. Its pretty obvious Welker fell into a dream situation where just about any receiver in the league could do the same thing he is doing in the slot in NE.

So, he really wasn't doing it to try to predict who would win the game, but instead was doing it to say who has been the better team over the past 15 years?
Ok. Thanks for clearing that up for the rest of us, because nobody in their right mind would have thought that. I hope Ty Law is able to stick with Burress, and I think Ben Coats is the X-factor.

This wasn't altogether shocking. The teams the Pats have struggled with (healthy Colts over the last few seasons, Ravens, Giants twice this year) are teams that can rush the QB with a relatively minimal amount of guys.
Not only do the Giants have these guys...they have an abundance of them, and they can rest their D-Linemen for a few plays at a time. If the Pats had a form of Kryptonite...it was probably that. Giants exploited it to perfection.
This might have been the Pats best shot for a while. I can't believe they will be as good next year considering the age of the team, and the uncertainty with Moss.

The Pats do have a number of free agents, and while they all talk about "team", the truth is that the guys will follow the money. With the longevity... or lack thereof... in the NFL, it is hard to blame them.

Well I'm back, and it was everything I could have hoped for. The Experience of a Lifetime! Going to the Superbowl would be an amazing thing regardless, but when your team is in it it is altogether a different experiecne. I felt so sorry for one of the couples behind me that was there just to be at the superbowl, and didnt look like NFL fans let alone fans of either team. My section was all Giants fans, as was most of the stadium. It had to beat least 65% Giants fans, probably closer to 75%. The events outside of the stadium were amazing, the pregame show inside the stadium very good, Tom Petty halftime show was amzing, the game amazing, Eli amazing on that last drive, what will now be know as THE DRIVE (sorry Elway). I mean eluding that sack!!!???? That just didnt used to be him, but he wanted it so bad! I think he is going to go on now to have a very successful career with everyone now off his back, not that if he doesnt play well the NY media wont get back on him, but I think he is on the path to elite play all the time, ot just some of it. I have so much I want to say but frankly you guys probably dont really care so I'll leave it at that. Amazing. Love the Giants. GO BIG BLUE!

Glad you had a great time. I had a blast in Miami last year. Although you had the benefit of not getting poured on :) It's an experience I'll never forget. Especially when your team wins. Also I got to sit next to two people who were neither Colt or Bears fans. They were Dolphins Season ticket holders who got Super bowl tickets. Glad to hear you had a great time and made it back in one piece.

I second that. :D:D:D.
Way to go Giants. That 4th quarter was a lot of fun. The EVIL EMPIRE has been defeated. (Colts Fan).
Check out this quote from a CBS online article.
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Deep inside the bowels of University of Phoenix Stadium, hours after Super Bowl XLII, as man and machinery slowly moved about and the bustling of a Super Bowl was finally quieting, a raspy, strained voice yelled out.
It was a Giants official who was, shall we say, quite jubilant about the New York Giants pulling off the greatest upset in Super Bowl history.
"Hey Freeman," the official yelled, in front of about a dozen people, "(expletive) the Patriots, (expletive) the Evil Empire and (expletive) Bill Belichick."

Due to the Patriots losing, someone needs to buy XUIrish a nice bottle of whiskey for him to drown his sorrows in. He prefers Jameson, but any whiskey will work fine!

I appreciate the concern, but it appears that they're are not too many Patriot Lovers on this forum, so i'll just focus my attention now to the rest of X's season, and oh yeah, another Red Sox World Series Championship.

Even if one is not a Patriots lover they should still support their fellow Xavier fan in drowning their sorrows. We should support each other and be one big happy Xavier family, oh and a drunk one at that!

The NFL network is showing an NFL Replay of the SB right now. It is great to watch it again, especially with all the cutscenes of what's going on on the sidelines, with commentaries and all.
I searched to see if I could find it again, but don't see it anywhere....

Wish I had NFL network. I could watch the whole thing again, over and over.
