Good showing for Cincinnati tonight. Georgetown is in a serious funk though.

Georgetown better turn it around soon or they will play themselves out of the NCAA Tournament.

Hold onto your seats.

ESPN commentator shows the top 12 Big East teams in conference play. Says you can draw a line from eleven. That right now 11 will go to the tourney. I guess with the SEC and the A10 down, they are automatically giving them to the Big East.

11 Notre Dame
10 Georgetown
9 Cincinnati

It was more of a case of Georgetown losing than UC winning. GTown's best player (Dejuan Summers) sprained an ankle and only played 13 mins.

I generally scoff at ESPN - Big East conspiracy theories, but that is ridiculous. UC has a lot more work to do if they're going to get a bid. Georgetown cannot be losing like they are (6 of the last 8) and make it. Providence isn't close to one of the 45 to 48 best teams (what it takes to get an at-large bid). Notre Dame ain't there either at this point.

Eleven teams? I'll believe it when I see it. They may get 9 teams, which I believe will either be or tie a record. However, even 9 teams isn't a record in terms of percentage of teams you place in the Tournament. Hell, they're also the biggest conference in NCAA history.

ND is ranked 22 (not much longer) and UC has a better record than them. We'll see what happens.

I'm sure most Georgetown fans are thinking to themselves, "why the hell do we have to play a midwestern school in an empty arena which we have absolutely no history with. The new Big East sucks."

Every year it seems some team from the big East complain about not making it into the NCAA tourney. Syracuse the last couple years, for example.

This year, I think the "bubble team" left out will be Georgetown, Notre Dame, or both. If you don't have at least a .500 record in your conference, I don't think you should make it to the NCAAs, period. I don't care how supposebly good your conference is.

No team should be rewarded for finishing in the bottom half of a conference.

The Big East has many problems, which is why some people don't think it will last.

Georgetown and ND are frauds...neither will make the tournament the way they are playing.

Notre Dame has a 4 game losing and will extend that to 5 when they play Pitt. UC can beat them. UCLA will beat them. And games with Louisville, UConn, and Villanova still to come...Notre Dame is looking at losing 9 or 10 of their final 15 games.

Georgetown is in more trouble. They already lost to ND. Lost to UC. Still have games against Marquette, UC (again), Syracuse, Marquette, Louisville, and Villanova. Georgetown could lost 9 or 10 of their final 14...and 11 or 12 of their final 18.

Neither team seems to have their games together...in fact they seem to be spiraling more and more

UC for some reason scheduled their game against ND for US Bank Arena. What an idiotic decision that's turning out to be. ND fans will probably outnumber UC fans.

I have heard from some UC people that UC will be throwing US Bank a bone and will be playing a few games a year there over the next 2 or 3 years. UC will then break ground on a new arena and will use US Bank for a temporary home.

A new arena for UC? How old is the Shoe, 20 years? What a waste of tax dollars.

I am rooting for UC to do more damage in the Big East. Georgetown is a fraud. I love seeing these over-rated programs take it on the chin.

That must piss off 5/3...since they have the naming right to UC's arena...then again 5/3 is a fraud of a company

That doesn't mean that 5/3 can't get the naming rights for a new arena: if you look in Philly, Core States/First Union/Wachovia has the naming rights to the Spectrum and the newer arena across the street.

I cannot do that. I have too much of a hatred for Duke from growing up in Maryland. And lets face it, it's just not right to root for UC.

I'm a big fan of both XU and UC basketball. The better UC is, I feel, the better for the city.

UC has a ton of problems with players not playing hard enough. But Cronin is slowly turning things around. I think it's been harder to deal with this group than he thought it would, or should, be. Currently at 14-7, they probably only need five more wins to get a serious sniff from the NCAA selection committee. It'll be tough, but I think their best chances for five wins will be against:
ND
at Georgetown
St. Johns
West Virginia
South Florida
Seton Hall

That's six winnable games there. After this week I doubt any of those teams will be ranked, but UC has a decent SOS and will likely rise well into the Top 50 RPI by tournament time. And who knows, maybe they knock off somebody ranked like Villanova, Louisville, or Syracuse?

UC's getting in the big dance will just strengthen XU's case for getting to that higher seed, especially if they have a slip up during one of these last conference games. I doubt that will happen, but they could lose one or two.

While I agree that those are all winnable games for UC, the way UC has looked this year, they are all very losable as well (see close calls against EKU and @ DePaul). No way do they win all 6. 3-4 is more likely.

ND is a home game but it might as well be a neutral site with the game being played at US Bank. I can't see them winning at Georgetown. West Virginia will be played at 5/3 but there will be more people cheering for Bob Huggins than for UC.

Easy. I work for that "fraud" of a company, and my department has been pretty darn good especially in the last few year to turn a profit for them.

Jeezus Cripes, to hear Cincinnati sports talk radio today, you would have thought that the uc basketball team just cured cancer, finalized world peace, ended global hunger and won 5 national championships all in one night. All of a sudden, the red leprechaun has become Coach K and John Wooden rolled into one. All because of a win against a damaged team in front of an announced 7,000 people- some of which were give away tix to student's "friends".

Meanwhile, the #10 team in the US polls just do what it do, win- in relative anonominity to the gabbing empty heads.

The way Lance, Mo and Doc couldn't wait to slobber all over a uc win was really comical.

News flash. It's 11:29pm on January 29, 2009. And uc still SucKS!!

Ha!!! I agree.

I take some solace in that fact that I don't think the long term prospects for UC are good. Urban commuter schools with ugly campuses need awesome, high profile coaches to succeed (Calipari, Huggins, Pitino...Dixon is an exception, but still a solid coach).
