Not to worry. They are all over Grant from VCU. If Bama offers Bama money, there is no way that he wouldn't take the job.

Maybe Gottfried will go back to Murray State. He did a fantastic job there, and the program needs fixing after Mick Cronin destroyed it.

I'm pretty sure we heard on another thread that Grant is going to Dayton. Sorry 'Bama.

Do you really think Grant could fill the coaching shoes left open at Dayton?

Sean Miller to Bama!!!!! (there I got it in first).

Seriously though, I don't see Sean as a SEC guy.

I don't either, but a lot of Bammers want a "Nick Saban" of basketball, and Anthony Grant doesn't quite fit the bill.

If they really want experience that has been there and done that, my guess is that they will make a run at Tubby Smith first. Things went sour at UK, but the man can coach.

A more viable rumor would be Miller to Maryland after Gary Williams gets canned.

I don't think he'll go, but there will be a short list put together by the media and Shawn will be #1 or #2.

I hope Maryland hires this Shawn you speak of, that keeps them away from our Sean

The words I don't want to hear this off season are "Jamie Dixon Hired By Airzona."

Jamie Dixon has it pretty good at Pitt. Doubt he would want to leave that comfortable situation. Regardless Sean seems pretty true to his word and he has the world by the balls at Xavier so I see him at X for a long, long time making tons and tons of money and winning a ton of games. Guy is pretty smart and he is the first coach Xavier has ever had that thought he can win it all at Xavier.

Xavier J is right, for all the right reasons. I think his ego is such that Brian Gregory might try to step up in class to either the ACC or SEC. Alabama will look to stay south and the VCU coach will jump to College Park if and when Gary Williams is fired. Dixon 's going nowhere. Why the hell would he leave one of the top four programs in the USA?:D

Not saying Dixon would leave, but why?

1) He's from the West Coast. By my count, there are exactly two "prestige" b-ball programs in the Pac-10: UCLA and Arizona. His mentor is at UCLA and isn't going anywhere, so if Dixon wants a high-profile job back home, this is the best bet.

2) Arizona has 27 NCAA appearances, including 24 consecutive (that's about to end likely). Pitt has 20 -- one more than Xavier. Pitt last made it to a Final 4 in 1941, and to an Elite 8 in 1974. Arizona has been to five Final 4's in the last 20 years and won it all in 1997. I think it's pretty clear that 'Zona is a better b-ball program.

Not saying Dixon will leave for there or Sean would leave for Pitt. I think Sean is genuinely committed to Xavier. But I was just pointing out that this scenario, far more than a random opening at a BCS job, scares me a little bit.

As soon as he gets to one of those, someone can ask him that question.

In a related note, the Alabama AD says that he has gotten 13 letters from people claiming to be A10 coaches that think Miller would be a good hire for Alabama or any other non-A10 school for that matter.

Get serious. Alabama can't hold a candle to Xavier in basketball. The SEC is a football conference period.

Florida couldn't even pull off the trifecta. Weak.

I guess the SEC is pretty good a baseball and golf too. It would have been better had I said that the SEC is a weak basketball conference.

There were probably a half dozen or so Gator fans who even managed to pull themselves away from Spring Practice to watch the Final Four those years.

Sean won't go to Alabama. I could see him in Pittsburgh or Lexington and that is about it. Not that I think that will happen. I just see those two places as places that he would coach. He isn't an Alabama man. He isn't an east coast or west coast guy.

He could leave us to go home one day. That is the biggest fear we all have. Other than Pitt I think Kentucky would be the only other player. I have no idea what Sean thinks of Kentucky. That is just my take.

Sean Miller doesn't seem like a UK guy. He seems to have morals and values. UK fans don't take well to that (see Smith, Orlando).

I guess the SEC is pretty good a baseball and golf too. It would have been better had I said that the SEC is a weak basketball conference.

I looked at conference ratings over the past 10 years. The average finish:

ACC - 1.8
SEC - 3.3
Big Ten - 3.8
Big East - 3.9
Big 12 - 4.1
Pac 10 - 4.3

The ACC has been rated #1 5 of the last 10 years. The Big 12 has 2 #1 finishes. There has been one each for the Big Ten, the Big East, and the SEC. The Pac 10 has not been top ranked.
