A friend of mine in Pittsburgh saw Xavier recruit Brian Walsh play last Friday. He told me that he originally thought Walsh wasn't that good. By the end of the game, he was very impressed with Walsh. In fact, he was a little upset that Pitt didn't get Walsh.
He said Walsh can shoot from very far back (a few feet behind the 3 point line.) He also said Walsh covered the other team's best player and just shut him down. He also said that Walsh is quick enough, albeit he doesn't have lightning speed. Now granted this was a high school game where Walsh was playing against a bunch of non-D1 players, but my buddy, for what it's worth, was very impressed.
One other thing, Walsh is listed at 6'4". My friend says he's every bit of 6'4.

That's very good news to me. He has been the one 2008 recruit that we X fans have heard least about. It's good to learn that Walsh may be another option for the Muskie coaching staff to use in future years.

It's interesting that we don't hear more about Walsh considering his offer list was more impressive than any of our recruits...including Big Frease. He wa rated much higher before sustaining an ankle injury during the summer circuit. He had offers from XU, Maryland, West Virginia, Pitt and Memphis....

I'm very excited about what Brian Walsh brings to the table. I know Maryland was upset they didn't land him.

I trust Sean Miller and his staff on player evaluations. It's amazing how many guys this staff is on at such an early period in the recruiting process that just blow up and become wanted by everybody.

Yeah I have been thinking the same thing, it seems like every time we start going after a recruit, he out of nowhere becomes a star.
Kudos to our fantastic recruiting. If we can keep this up, we will be hanging around the Top 25 for a long time.

That is something you have to like in a player. The ability to make things happen at the end of a game. I don't think that is something that can be taught, only refined.
He scored 22 and had 9 boards in a 1st round playoff win last night.

I got a feeling this guy is going to be the cream of this class.
And by saying that I hope I just didn't jinx him.

Supposedly Walsh is the most "ready" to play DI ball of this incoming class.

Apparently because of his defense.

Walsh was injured in last night's semifinals loss. He hurt his knee but did come back to play a few minutes. Extent of the injury is not known at this time.

Hopefully it is nothing big. The fact that he came back in is good, as it suggests that the injury is probably not a torn ACL.

That's definitely encouraging...I don't want another Robert Barker in our hands.
I saw this on Lance's blog.

Sounds like the knee injury was minor.
A few interesting points:
Walsh has been paying special attention to Xavier, which defeated Georgia and Purdue this past weekend and has advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. That's because Walsh has signed with the Musketeers of coach Sean Miller. Xavier plays West Virginia tonight in Phoenix.
"I always try to watch all of their [Xavier's] games," Walsh said. "But, yeah, I've been paying special attention. I've been watching to see what [plays] they've been running."
He has pictured himself being on the court next season for Xavier in the NCAA tournament.
Walsh has also heard the rumors that have Miller, a former Blackhawk High School and Pitt star, as one of the top candidates for the Indiana coaching opening. Would Walsh still want to attend Xavier, which is in Cincinnati, if Miller left for Indiana?
"I don't know," he said. "If that [Miller leaving] would happen, I'd sit down with my parents and talk to them."

Brian played in a all-star game friday night so the injury must not be too serious

Has there been any news on Walsh's injury? I recall he injured it in his playoff game, but I do not remember hearing anything about his progress or the extent of the injury.

I have a friend in Pittsburgh who watches a fair amount of high school basketball and has seen Walsh play. He says that Walsh is VERY good. Walsh is every bit of 6'4", is quick, can handle the ball, play defense, and can shoot from long range beyond the three. He was a little upset that Pitt didn't get him.
As for Walsh's knee injury, it was apparently very minor. Walsh went back in and played the same game.

Good, I'm glad he is alright. That is reassuring for all the musketeers.

Can't say why I hadn't looked before, but I just saw the picture of Brian on his rivals page and the kid has the far off look of a stone-cold killer. If a picture's worth a thousand words, then his picture reads something like Kill Bill.

There's three things I've heard Walsh can do very well: play D, shoot and pass (apparently, he has great vision).
Like every other freshman in our '08 class, he'll be difficult to keep off the floor.
