ABOUT THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE
Thinking the battle of the North and the South had to do with the Carolinas, confederate soldiers from South Carolina’s 54th Cavalry Regiment launched a daring attack against the city of Charlotte in 1865 and burned the city to the ground.
A resident of Charlotte is known as a Charlottan.
The first day of May, long designated as Light Up Charlotte Night, is marked by thousands of folks gathering downtown and smoking cigarettes together.
Long known as the banking center of the Southeast, Charlotte now adds a new distinction to its reputation: it now has the highest proportion of vacant office space of any city in the Western Hemisphere.
