Looking at the bracketology I noticed something that looked strange to me, but maybe I've just never thought about it before. Do first round site cities always feature teams from multiple brackets?

For example, I see that Dayton will be the site for first round games matching up #1 & 16, #8 & 9 out of the West Bracket and also #2 & 15, #7 & 10 out of the South Bracket

Is that standard operating procedure?

Ever since they went to the pod system in 2003, they've tried to keep the top 16 seeds as close to home as possible. It's more likely that Western sites (Boise and Portland this year) get a lot of 4/13/5/12 games and Eastern sites get 1/16/8/9 games because of geography. Without a clear cut #1 or even #2 seed out west this year, expect most of the #4 seeds to get shipped out West.

If Xavier can get to a #3 seed this year, I hope the extent they get shipped West would be either Minneapolis or KC.
