RALEIGH, N.C. -- Hall of Famer and longtime North Carolina State women's basketball coach Kay Yow has died after a decades-long fight against breast cancer. She was 66.

Kay Yow Dies at 66 (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/news/story?id=3857041)

She was an inspiration to many young girls...She formed and coached hundreds (if not thousands) of young women. Yow's battle with breast cancer raised awareness and money throughout the years. It's sad to see her lose the battle, but hopefully her legacy will live on.

Very Very Sad.

I always hoped she could beat it.

Can you imagine spending a 1/3 of your life fighting cancer?

I think I'll adopt the Women's NC State team to root for. It's gotta be tough for her players.

Sad news, she seemed like a great women. So many lives lost to this disease, I hope we can find a cure.

They had a moment of silence for her before the women's XU-URI game last night. I can't imagine how the NC State community must be feeling right now; they've lost 2 coaching icons in the past 2 decades to cancer in one form or another.

Very sad to hear. I work in a local high school athletic department and the news hit us as the women's basketball coach and us were discussing a "Game for the Cure" for us, full with pink jerseys and dollar donations with cards for every dollar we take in. The idea is to cover the walls in these pink little cards and obviously to donate the money. I think t-shirts may also be on sale.

Either way, it was sobering news as we discussed this and certainly gave us one more big reason for this cause (God knows, we don't need any more and have too many already). This is very sad news.

If anyone is interested in donating, please send me a message. It's a dollar per card and any donations will go straight to research.

Hard to believe Yow was diagnosed before Jimmy V, because Jimmy has been gone for a long time.

RIP Kay.
