View Full Version : The I Hate LSU Thread

I hate LSU because they epitomize everything about BCS schools
They do less with more than most schools
They're a land grant university and what did they do to deserve huge tracts of land
I hate that their mouth-breathing fans only realize they have a basketball team when they make the NCAAs
I hate that Kenny, CJ and Jamel took free-throw lessons from Shaquille
I hate that their coach looks like Gollum

I hate that their women make ours look like Oprah
I hate that their "live oaks" are probably worth more than our endowment
I hate that they produced James Carville who gave us Bill Clinton
They started as a seminary and lost their religion
I hate that they banned dances for 8 years in the early 20th century

I hate that their football team covered a spread a couple years ago that was -62 against Tulane.
They won 65-0.

I hate the experience I had with their fans in 2005:
It seems during Mardi Gras, most sane residents of Louisiana go on vacation to escape the Mardi Gras Madness. We made the mistake of staying at Port Orelans at Disney that week, which became New Orleans East that week. Not so bad in and of itself but we would share resort busses with several people proudly wearing LSU gear day in and day out, and at the end of the night the heckling and grief those LSU fans would give the guests in wheelchairs at the bus loading areas because it was slowing their departure from the park or making them wait on the next bus was sickening. Acts like those made me thing very negatively on anybodyt here I would see in LSU gear.

Did your trip resemble something like this?

Edit: Some of the stuff they say is not that bad, but they do use the bad N word and are not the most articulate group.

Yeah, because it's not like every school doesn't have their fair share of bad apples. When you follow a school with an enrollment of over 30,000 students and a fan base comprised of a lot of non-alumni you will always have some idiots.

I hate LSU because they weren't able to get past the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament with Chris Jackson, Shaquille O'Neal and Stanley Roberts. How that didn't happen is beyond me....well, I guess they did play a pretty solid team in Ga Tech with Kenny Anderson and Dennis Scott.
LSU still had the best shooter off the dribble I have ever seen play college basketball....Chris Jackson was just beyond sick. If he had stayed 4 years, Maravich's scoring record would have been toast.
For a trip down memory lane to see one of the best scoring guards to play college basketball.....

No doubt, Dale Brown would do more with less talent than most coaches, and less with more talent than most coaches. He took a few far less talented teams to the Final Four only to lose to the eventual national champion.

Hmm. Guy looks and plays just like this other guy named Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.
Yeah, his NBA career left a little to be desired....the whole not standing for the national anthem was unfortunate....when he got to the nba and converted to Islam, he lost like 30 lbs....he was out there trying to get around a pick set by Karl Malone when he weighed like 140 lbs.....it was even worse during Rahmadan when he couldn't eat from sun up to sunset.
I was a huge fan of the guy in college....he was a great story as he had tourette's syndrome....it was probably one of the reasons he was such a great shooter. Growing up in Gulfport, Mississippi, the kid would play on the playground all day....at the end of the day he had OCD so badly that before he could go home, he had to hit 20 free throws....not a big deal....but the net had to swish the EXACT same way each time he hit the free throw or he had to start all over again. He would be out on the playground in the dark crying because his tourette's (OCD) wouldn't let him leave until he made all 20 exactly the same way.
I still remember when he played for the Nuggets and they played the Bulls the year the Bulls won 70 games.....he was schooling Steve Kerr in the first quarter, the Bulls called a timeout....you could see Jordan saying, "I'll take him...I'll take him..." Rauf tore Jordan a new asshole the next 8 or so minutes and Jordan quietly switched off him. The Nuggets won that game and Craig Kilborn was on ESPN that night singing, "Rauf, Rauf, Rauf is on fire...."
I actually don't hate LSU at all....I used to love their teams with CJ and Shaq.

I remember reading some of that stuff about Jackson way back when. Incredibly sad stuff. Did he have tourrette's or OCD? Both? Because I don't believe they're the same thing.

Very serious case of Tourette's. Pretty amazing he could play at such a high level given his condition. He had a pretty serious "tick" and he received several technicals for just blurting out random curse words.

Got this off a health website about Tourette's Syndrome....
Complications
One of the most disabling aspects of Tourette syndrome is the high rate of associated co-morbidities such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anger control problems, and poor social skills. These problems need to be identified and addressed accordingly.
So I'm pretty sure he had both....he would have to tie his shoes so many times before he could get on the court, etc.....I also read that in one of his first games at LSU, he was given a technical foul for cursing.....apparently, the ref hadn't been informed of his condition.

One of the best college basketball game I've ever seen live was when LSU played @ Kentucky during Jackson's sophomore year. LSU was No. 5 in the country and UK had the "Unforgettables," or whatever they were called. Quite a bit of homering went on in the game and Shaq and Stanley Robinson were on the bench much of the game. UK was up 18 with about 4 minutes left when CJ went berserk. Everyone on UK's team knew he was going to shoot it...everyone in Rupp knew he was going to shoot it....but nobody could do anything about it. Jackson scored 18 points in the final 4 minutes and LSU barely lost. The fans in Rupp were priceless.....every time he hit a shot iduring those last four minutes there was this huge groan....the UK fans just couldn't believe what he was doing and there was nothing that could be done to stop him...except for the clock hitting 0.0.
I think he may have ended up with 43 points that game.

Another classic UK/LSU game was down there where UK had the largest second half come-back ever. They were down by something like 32 to 35 points in the 2nd half and came back to win.

I liked watching Chris Jackson, Shaq, and even Baby Shaq. Aside from that, LSU (is it honestly a university?) is just another southern school that makes me laugh when highly touted recruits speak about going there for the education. Really.

I am sure LSU is a nice "school" but don't piss on my leg and tell me its rain. Your academics are not what you would call top notch or even average notch.

They are now. LSU has done many things to improve the academics. The standards have become much more stringent. It is no Duke or Vanderbilt or anything, but it is a good school.
