If I hear him say "Defense creates offense" or talk about how great a dribble penetrator CJ is one more time, I'm going to vomit. I'm as big a Xavier fan as anyone, but his commentary is RIDICULOUS. It's shoddy, redundant, and shows a lack of basketball knowledge and pregame preparation.

We don't have an am antenna hooked up to our radio at home, so we can't get Byron and Joe (aside from the timing delays) so we literally watched the game with the mute on last night.

Horrible!

Brad Johansen isn't a "Xavier guy" but seems to have much better insight into the games and overall program than Wolf, who IS a Xavier guy.

I thought this was going to be about that ugly tie he was wearing last night.

Lack of basketball knowledge? I wouldn't go there in the least.

He tends to talk too much at times but all in all I don't mind our TV crew at all.

I thought it was going to be because he called Jamel McLean...Terrell Holloway!

I don't mind Steve...I would keep him around, unless you have a better alternative.

Byron and Joe belong on radio...so don't go there.

I do think it would be nice if Xavier had a recent former play make a run at the biz. Maybe start off as the halftime guy and then move on from there.

Kelsey did some work in that role for a little.

People always have to bitch and complain about something. I think Brad and Steve do an okay job. Maybe you should spend less time complaining about the announcing and more time hooking up an antenna.

I like Steve and he has my vote. I really wish they would podcast the radio portion of the games so I could listen to Byron and Joe later. I love the way they call the games but I watch every game on TV. I feel like I miss out on too much.

But we have so much depth at broadcaster that I could see Steve transferring out if he becomes disgruntled with his lack of air time.

Indeed he is. Teen is now a sophomore at Moeller, and he’s quite a golfer, I’m told.

Other family members include wife Virginia; Tom, his father; Blitzer, his brother, and Blitzer’s twin, Donden. There’s also a grandfather, Focke, and a rapper cousin named Big Bad.

Isn't Kelsey an assistant at Wake? I think that might be a downgrade.

If you have ever listened to either the radio or the television announcers of a Dayton game, you would understand how much we have to give thanks for. It is PAINFUL to listen to their disillusional and moronic ramblings!

Great point, Snipe. I've thought the same thing before. It would be nice to be able listen to the radio broadcast the next day. Attempting to listen to the radio and watch the game never works because of the delay.

As for Brad and Steve, I couldn't disagree more. When Brad first started doing games, I thought the same thing about him not being a "Xavier guy", but how can he not love this team/program after spending so much time around it? He has to have bought in. And I think Steve does an excellent job. I actually mentioned it to my wife last night while watching the game. His analysis is solid and he is very well-connected in the basketball world which goes a long way in relating to the listeners. Plus he cracks up when Redford throws in a bomb - and who doesn't do that?

I wasn’t saying that Pat should come back (well, as anything less than a head coach...and I'm not saying Sean is leaving or I want Sean to leave)…come on now. One of the top ACC assistants with a big future or sideline reporter for the Flagship…hmmm.

I was just saying there has only been 1 example of this in the last 12 years, or so.

If you can manage to make this post, you can manage to pull internet streaming radio.

You need to write an e-mail and make this happen

YES WE CAN

I wrote them an email in the past but it has been a few seasons. I think that Dawn might have been AD. I wouldn't even mind if they charged a little bit or included it in the subscription level access of goxavier.com. Maybe an online petition?

Meh. I'm just happy to be able to watch the guys play on TV. I remember the days of having to sit out in the car and listen to WLW to follow the games. Now all I have to do is sit back and let DirecTV do the work. Steve is fine with me. I would listen to Hitler and Stalin do our games, as long as I can see the Muskies play.

You probably want to hit up 700WLW or 55KRC. They've been very responsive to any emails I've sent along.

I join Snipe in giving "attaboys" to Steve and Brad. Just remember, one "aw sh!t" cancels 5 "attaboys."
FYI others, Sterve Wolf is highly regarded by Fox sno..He has done color on other games on the entire Fox hoops network. Brad has become a very knowledgeable play-by-play man where Xavier is concerned.
From someone who used to listen and watch one game every two years telecast by WCPO and then have to endure a half-time show lionizing UC basketball and their championship hopes, I'll take Steve and Brad and anybody --except those Dayton asses--any night of the week.:D

The biggest problem with FSN-Ohio's presentation of Xavier games is that the picture quality is absolutely atrocious. I'm not asking for Hi-Def, but when you compare the picture of FSN games to the non-HD Big Ten Network it is striking.

Andy MacWilliams.. Seems like a no-brainer to me. I don't care if the guy has a problem with his voice he has forgotten more about Xavier Basketball than anyone knows about it.

If you forgotten who he is... This is all you need to know.

Steve and Brad are fine and Johanson seems to enjoy calling a Brad Redford shot more than anything else.

I tell you what, though. If Steve was ever sick, or couldn't go for any reason, I'd love to add a little spice to the broadcast by bringing Jumpin' Jamal Walker on there for color. Jamal was absolutely hilarious to me doing the running commentary on the mike during the summer league games.

That would be fun, even one game as a "guest commentator."

I do think Wolf tends to talk too much. He doesn't need to fill every waking second w/ his commentary. BTW: I heard him do a non XU game earlier this season and he does the same thing regardless of the teams. I'll take the radio delay; actually the radio is usually ahead of the TV when I do it.

My eyes were seriously hurting after I switched back to Fox Sports from the vt/wake game.

HUH?!?!?!?!?
"Xavier had a pretty luck first Half" - Brad Johansen Sat. January 3rd, 2009 Xavier 43 Virginia 26.
"Brad Redford has no Range"- Brad Johansen Wed. December 31, 2008 Redford: 5 3-point field goals for 15 points
"UC is finally playing a legitimate top 25 team" - Brad Johansen Mon. December 29th, 2008 UC vs Unranked Memphis (UC vs #10 XU occurred on Dec. 13th)

Sorry but I'll take Steve Wolf over "I'm so handsome" Johansen anyday!

I am ok with either guy. I don't miss hearing 'Mr. Sato, Mr. West' and so on from Ralph Lee. Nothing personal against him but obviously some former players are better suited than others to take up the mike. No doubt Steve knows the game and loves the program.

I agree. It's not the worst thing in the world, but he does talk too much. Other than that, I really don't have a problem with Steve.

I agree. I can't watch them on the HD TV. I watch Fox Sports on the old basement rear projection tv. It's like the reverse of the Sony HDNA commercials. If they're shooting the game on crappy old technology, shouldn't I be watching it on crappy old technology?

I appreciate his excitement. It's better than the alternative, Joe Buck, style ("I'm too cool to get excited about sports").
