After covering 3-25 when Yates coached, I can say "yes" to a combined season similar to that whipping. I am afraid the loss will start the Hugginites to begin calling for Mick's immediate removal.:D

UC is going to struggle when Deonta Vaughn goes scoreless. Dominic James did an incredible job on him.

Jerel McNeal going 7-7 from 3 didn't help the cause much either.

UC is going to struggle this year, especially with a young team and questionable talent at the 2 and 5 positions. That in addition to lacking a PG, giving Vaugn the chore of helping to run the show.
As far as Cronin being a good coach...much like Weis at ND, that will both be determined in 2009. Beyond that, even the biggest homer would have to concede that the experiments were unsuccessful.

Other than not having a real PG, I think UC's problem is that some of their sophomores have not improved at all. Bishop, Davis, and McClain are the same players they were last year and I think some of them have actually gotten worse.

I used to think Mick needed more time and did not think it was fair for some of the UC fans to doubt him, but I seriously doubt his ability right now.

I agree that he is not as advertised but he has suffered some tough injuries so maybe he just is not the same player as he once was because of physical limitations.

Yes, but this was Marquette, not Duke. And at least Xavier managed to get the final score back to a level that didn't appear obnoxious to someone who only saw the final score.

The difference is that for UC this is a trend. Prior to yesterday they score 50 points and get it handed to them by a Memphis team that could not hit the broad side of a barn who according to Jim Boehiem is the worst shooting team he has ever seen. On top of that they were real fortunate to take Eastern Kentucky to OT right before Eastern lost to a D III team. UC is just not very good and will not be a good team this year. They will be lucky to win 6 games in the big east.
