With A10 play just around the corner, I thought it might be interesting to take a look at the A10 Non-Conference Schedule/Results to date. Given the mediocre overall A10 winning percentage of 58%, Xavier will most likely see their computer rankings drop with many A10 games--win or lose. Also, given the push by some A10 coaches to improve their non-conference schedules, I am not seeing many signs of this outside of Xavier.

Analysis
* Note: Most data came from ESPN.com. I used the ESPN/USA Today Rankings since I believe these get the most exposure.

The A10 has a combined record of 98 wins & 71 loses or 58% winning percentage for the 169 games played as of 1/1/2009.

The A10 has played 18 games against teams ranked in the Top 25 (at the time of the game). They won only 4 of those match-ups. None of the 4 wins were on the opponent’s home court. The A10 has played 3 common ranked opponents: Memphis (2 times), Villanova (5 times) & Duke (3 times).

I'm not going to lie and say that 58% is good, but anything better than .500 should help us come conference play time. Especially when you look at your numbers and see that more teams have a winning record than losing record.

A couple of years ago our winning percentage was a lot worse than 58%.

Taking a look at the rest of the Non-Conference for the A10 teams...the winning percentage should get slightly better, but how the A10 has fared thus far makes me second guess that.

Xavier - UVA (1/3), @LSU (1/24) - 2 for 2
Charlotte - @Maryland (1/3), Tulsa (1/10), Winthrop (1/31) - 1 for 3
Dayton - @Toledo (1/2), Miami (OH) (1/6) - 2 for 2
Duquesne - none
Fordham - @ Bowling Green (1/3) - 0 for 1
GW - @ Longwood (1/3) - 0 for 1
LaSalle - Howard (1/3), PENN (1/21) - 2 for 2
UMass - Vanderbilt (1/3) - 1 for 1
RI - Akron (1/3), @ Toledo (1/6) - 1 for 2
Richmond - Rice (1/3), @VTech (1/14) - 1 for 2
St. Joe's - @Ball State (1/3), PENN (1/24) - 2 for 2
St. Louis - NC A&T (1/2) - 1 for 1
St. Bonaventure - @ Central Arkansas (1/3) - 0 for 1
Temple - Kent State (1/5), @ E. Michigan (1/7), PENN (1/14) - 2 for 3

During this stretch of games...A10 goes 15 for 23 (65%)

Tonight and Tomorrow are big days for the A10 and the shape of the conference going into conference play. 2 teams play tonight (Dayton and St. Louis) and 10 teams to play tomorrow (only teams not to play are Duquesne and Temple).

After tomorrow...only 9 OCC games for the conference...and 3 of those involve PENN

Finish out strong, A10

At least the dump and St. Louis won tonight. St. Looie was down by 14 points at the half to a crappy team, but they sort of manned up to win.

With 2 wins on Friday (Dayton and SLU)...the 10 games were important for the conference to raise the winning percentage. Through the early tips...it looks like the conference is 6-1 (thanks for screwing the pooch, Fordham)

Teams still to play today...Charlotte, UMass, and GW

8-1 so far...let's go A10

X did their part!

Update...

Richmond lost to VaTech
A10 sweep vs. Penn
Xavier winning @LSU

A10 is now 16-6 out of conference in the new year...and I know I'm going out on a limb and predicting that Charlotte will lose their game against Winthrop

The A10 will finish the OOC schedule 114-78 (59.4%)
