I know that many might not really care about this, but I had to give a moment of appreciation to Lt. Al Piening, who retired officially from the Cincinnati Fire Department on December 26.
He has served in the CFD since May 6, 1962, ten years before I was even born. That is 46 years in the CFD. One of the genuinely good guys on the department, a true legend.
Here is his official signoff over dispatch.

The call out at the end by dispatch went out to every firehouse in the city, showing appreciation to his dedication.
And the following story on the Enquirer site...

Al will be missed by all, even if he didn't know us "kids", we knew of him. Unit 4 just got better.
