The A10 is accepting bids for the 2010 tournament:

The league recently sent out Request for Purchase (RFP) agreements to a number of venues for 2010. The list, the Daily News has learned, includes the Palestra, where the tournament had its greatest extended run of acceptance from 1989 to 1995 at a time when the league was as hot as it has ever been.

Thoughts? Concerns?

I am very undecided on how the A10 should handle the conference tournament. I like the idea of Atlantic City but the attendance there is horrible. I like the attendance in Dayton, Philly, and Cincinnati but XU always gets greeted with an "away" crowd everywhere except when it was held in US Bank.

Underdogs always root for the favorites to get beat ;)

I would start being concerned when people are no longer cheering for X to lose

With it being on CBS, I think they move it to Dayton for the best chance of having a crowd in the stands.

Pittsburgh!

I don't think we will see it here anytime soon.

Remember before we joined the league. They had an old rule that the Championship game was played on the home court of the favorite. Man would that be something to bring to the Tas.

Hopefully this is just an exercise to get a better deal out of Atlantic City. I think that is the best location for it.

I agree with Snipe Pittsburgh would be a great location its a good distance for everyone...hold it at Mellon Arena or at the University of Pittsburgh, plus they will have a casino downtown by the football stadium

It's just close enough to everyone that no one would come. It would be an unmitigated disaster.

UD Arena. Its close and it's always fun to win it on their floor.

There have to be a ton of viable options. I'd be okay with the Palestra, or with something in Pittsburgh. How about C-Bus? Do it at Nationwide, it's near Cincy and Dayton, but not on their home turf. Maybe Baltimore? Not too far from Philly or Richmond or GW. I don't think it would do well in NYC, or Boston.

I would seriously consider a trip if it is at the Palestra, because it is a storied venue that I have always wanted to see.

That arena may actually sell-out so it looks good on TV, unlike Boardwalk Hall, the Spectrum, or a half-empty U.S. Bank.

Plus, I can occupy myself just fine in Philadelphia when games are not being played. It is easier to get to and not one of the most depressing places on earth like Atlantic City.

I look forward to the day when we have a conference tournament where people actually show up from multiple teams. I don't care where they hold it for that too happen.

I look forward to the day we aren't in the A10 and this is no longer a concern.

I think we should be in Key West or Hawaii at that time of year.

I disagree. The A-10 has been good for us. I want to dominate the A-10. I never want to move into another conference where we could become a middle tier program.

We are the Flagship of the A-10. Keep us here.

I'd like to see the tourney in Charlotte, but that's just because it's easier on me. I doubt anyone from the East Coast would show up. Then again, if Charlotte really wants out then forget having it there.

This is completely off topic and I don't mean to thread jack but, who is to say we would have to be middle tier? Maybe at first, depending on which conf., but who is to say we couldn't rise to the top?

Doesn't the ACC hold their tourney in North Carolina?

I think the A-10 is a great place for us to be. It has been fantastic for Xavier. We need to slim down the league though because we have too many teams. I never tire of that discussion.

Not always. They've held it in DC, Atl- Ga Dome, etc. I think this year it is in Charlotte but is in Greensboro in 2010.

Agree 100%

Add me to this list as well. The A-10 has been fine for us these last 14 years and it took us virtually no time to rule this league.

Why in the world would anybody think we would be mediocre if we went to a more competitive conference? That's really not the Xavier way of approaching the situation!

I'm sure this topic is buried in a thread somewhere, if not maybe we need to start it again. Sounds like there could be some good points made both ways. Lets not throw this thread off topic though.

Which conference that is higher ranked than the A10 has asked Xavier to join their league? You can bitch and moan about the A10 all you want, but it is better than where we were and it is the best available option at this time.

I believe Atlantic City is tough to get to and not a first class image for the league. Has Baltimore or Washington DC been used or explored in the past. Both are served by direct flights from most (if not all) of the conference. Great places to visit, things to do and places to eat in either location.

Love to have it in the Midwest, but I didn't like the arena downtown Cincy and don't want to give Dayton home court advantage when they play us in the tournament.

DC would be one I would like to have explored.

I think they should have it in Colmubus for no other reason than to make my commute easier.
