I'm still pissed we don't play them. Didn't Bobinski kinda give them a little barb about not playing us in an interview last year? Anyways, they appear to be in the running for who's the best team after North Carolina and will probably be ranked in the top ten the whole year.
Seriously though, we need to play them at some point. And none of that neutral court bull crap. Play at the school's actual home gym people!

Take heart, Gonzaga almost got screwed royally. Jim Burr worked the game with young Kersey and another guy I don't know. Burr made some of the damndest calls I have ever seen and all of them for Pearl...Thought Few was gonna get heaved...But Gonzaga is for real. And did you hear Francilla talking about Xaviere at the break and during the breaks...Gave heavy props to Brown and TH..Said Sean was one of the best coaches in USA and has built the program like Few

This may be Gonzaga's best squad ever. Early in the season but they do look good.

ESPN likes to award all credit for Gonzaga's success to Mark Few (because clearly Monson didn't have any input in that program at all).
It's akin to saying that Sean has done everything at X without paying homage to Gillen, Prosser, and Matta.

I think it's about right then. Monson did a great job at Gonzaga, but Few has taken them to an entirely different level. Ditto Staak, Gillen, Prosser and Matta at Xavier with Miller taking us to an entirely different level. Pretty good comparison, really.

Here's a Catholic College Comparison of NCAA Tournaments through 2008. The continual media infatuation with Gonzaga over Xavier is laughable.

Of course, just prior to 1986, Villanova and Georgetown won National Championships. But, other than the Marquette Final 4 with Dwayne Wade and Georgetown’s Final 4 in 2007, the best finishes by any Catholic school in the last 11 years are 2-Elite 8's by Xavier, and one each by St. Johns, Villanova, Gonzaga, Providence and St. Joes. Georgetown also has one Sweet 16. In the last 22 years, Xavier has 2 Elite 8’s and one Sweet 16. Georgetown has 1 Final 4 and 3 Sweet 16’s. Gonzaga has 1 Elite 8 and 3 Sweet 16’s. Xavier, obviously just missed one extra Sweet 16 by the Ron Lewis heave.
Xavier built a new arena first- and it is larger than Gonzaga.
Who should be compared to whom?

I think we had a great chance to displace the Zags as the media darling when we played them with Morrison. We beat them in Salt Lake, in front of their fans and a national audience, we could have taken their role as the favorite Catholic school.
They also play a great non con schedule on a national scope. We have done a much better job with that in the past 5 or 6 years, but prior to Bobinski, we played some really crappy non con skeds.
We keep making deep runs and winning games, our reputation across the nation will continue to escalate. That is all this program can control. Schedule quality non con teams and beat them whenever we can. Win games in March when the world is watching. It is that plain and that simple.
Fuck Mark Few and Fuck Gonzaga. They are for real this year no doubt, but they can shove themselves up their own ass in my opinion.

That game would have been huge but I don't think what Gonzaga does really affects us. We are media darlings regardless. Look at where they have us ranked. People talk about us during all sorts of non-related games. Xavier is standing pretty f'in strong in the media darling department.
Gonaza has a great team. They have a lot in common with us. They are not a rival and their success does not diminish our own in my opinion. I think we should root for them.
I wish we could have had they game in Salt Lake though. We had that game.

I like that. Good insight.
