View Full Version : I Hate Toledo Thread

I know someone else usually has one of these threads going, but seeing as I'm from Bowling Green and Toledo has always been the enemy growing up, I wanted to get it started... However, I'll try to avoid those petty BGSU arguments as to why I hate Toledo, and I'll focus on a broader scope... So here it goes...

I HATE TOLEDO because...

They have two point-shaving scandals in the past few years (basketball and football).
Their basketball arena is the model for UC's place (they are exactly the same).
They are the UC of the north!

And thats all I've got, but please feel free to continue. Thanks!

I hate Toledo because it is the "glass city"

I hate Toledo because over half of the people that live there, wish they didn't.

I hate Toledo because they are next on our schedule and I hate everyone we play for one reason or another.

Yes and no. As bad as the Shoe might be, their arena doesn't have multi-colored seats that makes the gym look like an elementary school gym. Having been to both Millett and Savage Halls, is there a rule among MAC schools saying that their arenas are supposed to resemble 70s movie theaters?

Great, and now I have something in common with a Dayton fan. What else could go wrong? ;)

Also, Savage hall is still a crap hole of a gym. SO is Anderson Arena at BGSU. But the seating design is the same for UC and UT. On each sideline, the seats go up so far that you can't even see the game. Stupid plan. Why do schools still agree to go with that kind of seating plan?

Also, they're redoing their arena in hopes to cover up all the bad publicity.

OH! Another reason:

I HATE Toledo because their football players get arrested for dealing Oxycontin.

Didn't Michigan and Ohio 'fuss' over Toledo in the 19th Century and Ohio ended up winning - I mean getting stuck with Toledo?

Their midcourt logo looks borderline pornographic.

Yes, that area has really took, in what I like to call it, a nosedive. Someone earlier said that half of the people who live in Toledo wish they didn't, and I honestly laughed quite a bit at that one, seeing as thats one of the truest statements ever made here.

This is very true. In exchange for Toledo, Ohio approved and helped Michigan gain the UP. Yea, nice trade, Ohio. Thanks.

BG is actually building a new facility also.

Scheduled completion is 2010.

Flyer,
While I believe that everything from and within Dayton is pure evil, I appreciate your insight. The BG in you remains somewhat strong.

When is that arena for BGSU due to be opened? It looks pretty nice.

I like the Toledo Zoo. And Savage Hall is a great name for an arena.

Why hate Toledo? They are a buy game. You might as well hate IPFW! Why waste your time. They are getting paid to lay down like a bunch of cheap whores. That is what buy games are all about. That is what the MAC is all about.

As well as Mr. Gallagher.

It's also close to Put-In-Bay, where many, many cocktails can be enjoyed, mostly during the warmer months.

It's supposed to be open in time for the 2010 season. A lot of it is being financed from public donations, it will also have the world's largest Falcon statue (fun little side note).

Ok, I can only take so much. I am a life long XU Fan (grew up in Cincy) and a PROUD UT grad (still living in Toledo). Since BGSUCKS tools are delusional to their general lack of relevance I will interject some facts here...leave it to a BG fan to screw up an "I HATE..." thread.

1. The renovation of Savage Hall (now renamed to Savage Arena) is turning a 30+ year old run down arena into a top notch arena for around 30 Mil. What they've done in less than a year is nothing short of incredible. The ugly multi-colored seats are gone, and replaced with a Blue and Gold Rocket mural. The arena did have the dumb layout similar to UC's before, but the renovation has made the lower bowl very similar to the Cintas. It now seats 8000+, has luxury suites, new athletic offices, new state of the art locker rooms, new court, new scoreboard with huge screens on each side, and after the season a new indoor practice facility will be added for the football team (the real money maker for the university).

2. A UD fan is taking your side...enough said

3. UT is by no means the UC of the north...and BG has had as many players, if not more, get in trouble with the law over the past 10+ years.

4. Nice "New Arena" in the works...You might as well call it Jumbo Anderson Arena…for a liberal arts school you’d think there would be some more creativity. I thought you hated places were the stands go up and up...of course anything would be better than the HS Gym you play in now.

5. That is true about half the residents not wanting to live in Toledo. It's a very strange city/region that lacks sophistication, and has a weak economy that is heavily reliant on manufacturing. I don't plan to live here much longer than 5 more years.

6. The best thing going for the city of Toledo is the University of Toledo but the city doesn’t get it.

Now, here are my "I Hate Toledo" comments:

- I hate Toledo because they fired their last basketball coach, Joplin, about 7 years too late
- I hate Toledo because they have the BIGGEST TOOL of a Mayor in the USA
- I hate Toledo because they are blindly Democratic
- I hate Toledo becaue the Toledo Blade is the most biased worst paper in the mid-west...seriously, you think the Enquier stinks...you haven't seen anything
- I hate Toledo because the golfing BLOWS
- I hate Toledo because they were the most successful Football program in the country over the past two decades enabling the MAC to elevate its national standing, generating interest that is directly responsible for the TV coverage, and the guaranteed three bowl games every year (even while carrying BGs sorry a$$ along for years as they stunk up the joint)…until they stopped coaching 3 years ago

That's how you do it SON! Notice, I didn't let my annoyance with BGSUCKS Hacks distract me from the “spirit” of an “I Hate” thread. ;-)

And, of course, the OTHER battle of I-75 continues...

I went to St. John's. I've seen a few of the good things Toledo can bring. the world famous Toledo Mud Hens have a nice new ballpark. And SJ does provide some of the best basketball in the state (as BJ Raymond, Andrew Taylor, and even Dayton's Brian Roberts are products of).

However, you can't rip on Anderson Arena and say it's a high school gym when St John's used it more effectively than UT. SJ had a high attendance rate at their games than Ut did when I went there. Savage "Arena" was much more of a highs cool gym and it was also pretty trashy. I never said Anderson Arena was a wonderful building. It's also a crap joint. I'm happy both places are improving their arena's.

One more reason...

I HATE Toledo because they shut down COSI.

Toledo is Detroit South.

I really dislike that town. I lived up near there, and no lie, each of the people that I worked with from there got arrested or charged with a fairly serious crime while I knew them. Sure, small sample size, but 5 out of 5 arrested is not good.

Toledo! Trying to live up to the Detroit standards from up north!

Oh and they were really not smart either.

I HATE dayton.

Nope. Since dayton is a Cincy suburb, I would most likely say that Toledo would be the equivalent of Centerville north. Maybe even Hamilton, I can't decide.
