Johnny had 27 points and 5 assists for UNC Wilmington tonight. Just came across it looking at scores thought I'd share.

They were way behind seemingly all night and got a nice OT win.

Good for him. I'm glad he found what he wanted and is happy. Hope he has a great year.

OK, might as well rekindle a little Johnny Wolf speculation, consternation, and well, never mind.

Last night our old hero Johnny Wolf went all kinds of crazy in the season opener for UNC-Wilmington:

8-17 FG
5-8 3pt
6-6 FT
27 pts
3 reb
5 assists
0 to, 1 steal, even 1 block

Atta boy, JOHNNY!

Should be interesting to see him play in a fairly competitive league all year round.

Good for him. It would be nice to have him this year. I hope that he continues to do well.

Johnny Wolf was always a solid player, a poor man's Brad Redford. Great basketball skills, but just didn't have the speed or a quick enough shot to excel against high Division 1 opponents.

Stud performance out of the gate for Wolf. Lets hope that is a sign of things to come from him. I will be following his play and rooting for him.

You could tell this from the start...Johnny is a scorer...a playmaker...he wasn't doing that here. Not because he couldn't, but because he was asked to do something else. Basketball is probably fun for him again.

Think how frustrating it must have been having to accept that role knowing he could contribute much more than what he was. How he played here was not his game at all. If Sean and company had let the reigns loose with him, I bet he could have averaged perhaps 10 a game (maybe a little high but not out of the realm of possibility). But the reality of the situation was...somebody had to play point guard.

Alot of people, based on what they saw of him at Xavier, saw him as the "slow white guy", but we didn't see his true game while he was here. Dude can score.

I agree 100%. A lot of people think he wasnt cut out for, as I have seen it, "high division 1" competition, but I think he was asked to completely change his game and it wasnt what he was used to. I think when you talk about the likes of a guy like Stan who was asked to change his game you should include Johnny for the 2 years he was here. He lead this team to a A10 tourney championship his freshman year playing a completely different style of basketball than he was used to.

Wow... the Brad Redford for Xavier hall of fame committee is already hitting on all four cylinders.

I never inferred that Redford is going to be a stud. I'm talking from a skill set perspective. Redford easily has quicker feet on defense as well as a quicker shot with a higher release point. What never fails on this board is the Johnny Wolf love affair. I mean, I wish the guy luck, but he's not a muskie. I don't see Churchill Odia updates on here.

Odia wasn't any good, and he isn't now. How exciting would it be to hear an update that a player saw 9 minutes of play, scored 2 points, and had no assists and 1 turnover. Wolf wasn't amazing but he started for an NCAA team after Finn got kicked off the team. I would also expect Wolf to to perform well throught the season, maybe end up on one of the CAA all conference teams.

Its because Johnny is a local product and also without him we would not have won 4 games in 4 days to win the A10 tourney and get into the tournament. And he did it as a freshman with a messed up hand. Pretty special.

Johnny scored 20 points in his second contest. He is averaging 23.5 pts, 4.5 ast playing 35 minutes a game. He is shooting 57% from three and has a 9/1 assist to turnover ratio. That is one hell of a start.

UNCW plays at Wake Forest tonight. That should be a tough test for them.

Wake blew them out by something like 30, but according to the bottom line, Wolf had 24 points.

He had 5 turnovers tonight looking at the box.

Wake put up 120 points on them. That is an impressive number of points. I hope that Dino does well this year. Wake only had 4 three pointers. 120 points the hard way.

Couldn't have been that hard if they scored 120 points while only hitting 4 threes.

I never know what to make of these early season scores. Wofford, which took Dayton to the wire, got pounded by Clemson by 40+ or 50+. But by the same token Mich. St. only beat IPFW by single digits. Hard to compare teams to each other, especially because I think the variance probably comes mostly from the performance of the "buy" teams.

SLU also lost tonight to Kent St.

In addition to his 24 points, Wolf also played 36 minutes & had 5 rebounds and 5 assists against a decent ACC team. Not a bad night.

I should have noted the postives since I noted the turnovers. He did have a good line. I think he is their leading scorer now. Good for JW. I hope that he does well.

I am not sure if this has already been posted and if this is the right spot for it but J Wolf is averaging over 16 points per game. He has 24 against Wake Forest. Here is his stats so far. I knew he would be good at a smaller school. Does anybody understand why that is? I mean it looks as though he has two other teammates that are scoring just as much as him.

UNC Wilmington plays absolutely no defense and the coach gives the team the green light to shoot whenever is what I have been told and that information correlates with msot of their final scores.
