The ref did a poor job.

He could have lowered his body a little more and put some more leg into it.

I heard about this through a friend the other night...thought it was a joke...then say the video that thought someone replaced a player with the ref on their computer...

I had to ask someone who was watching the game live to say it was true.

What was he thinking???? He had money on the game

I saw it live, but the TV was muted. We all laughed about it, but we didn't see this angle. For all the world, it looked like the ref was trying to get out of the way until he delivered the blow. Seeing this view, I would be way more than pissed if I were a Gamecock fan. I would certainly call for a full investigation.

Agree Glow.

The ref should be suspended at the least. This is on the list of "Things that make you say hmmmm."

It was disclosed on ESPN that the guy had played for UK and was a linebacker.

The ESPN guys surmised that it was a reflex action on his part.

According to PTI this afternoon (In the final comments Tony Reali), The SEC has reviewed the game film and found that the ref was in the right position and there will be no punishment.

I thought it was strange at first but I agree it was reflex on the Refs part. I wouldn't want to be run over either.

Don't think I buy the reflex argument. The guy actually positions himself and delivers the hit. Flashback maybe, but not reflex.

I liked the reaction by Les Miles. He said he was disappointed in the ref's technique. He also made the point that you MUST wrap up when you deliver a hit. The ref clearly made no attempt to wrap up, and merely thought his forearm shiver was enough to knock the ball carrier off his feet. You just can't do that in the SEC, you gotta wrap up.

He did a nice job of contain, and was text book in breaking down in the hole. The RB didn't fake him out, and he gave him enough of a shot to allow the linebackers to do their jobs, but the ref needs work on staying low.

As someone who has played some LB over the years I can say that his lateral movement and positioning was superb but he needs to get lower and drive through the hit. Seriously, WTH. I've heard of Nam flashbacks but never football flashbacks. I'm sorry to admit that this only bolsters DC's argument that anyone can play football. Just kidding of course.

What was he supposed to do, get run over? He reacted maybe overreacted a bit but I doubt there was intentional malice on his part.

I woulda done the same thing. Except I wouldn't have leaned into the block and cold-cocked him. LOL
