So,
I picked up copies of both new albums and given them both a couple of listens.
Both bands do what they do. No surprises and certainly nothing extraordinarily new. Saying that....
AC/DC wins. They just do what they do better and they seem to do it with still more energy. I'm sorry, Metallica is just getting to be a cliche'. Their stuff sounds like 1987. This might be the last of their stuff that I buy.
My verdict- Angus, Brian and the boys are just more fun, even at 60 plus years old.
Have a good time at the show in Atlanta, ATL.
I have listened to my copy of Black Ice as well and I have to say, they have gone down hill over the last few albums. However, I have to agree with you MOR, even a subpar new ACDC album beats the shit out of the new Metallica album.

So MOR is a Butthead fan, eh?

Heh, heheh, heh,heh,heh!
Kind of takes the credibility out of that "national article" doesn't it, J?
I listened to the whole CD again yesterday and I am going to have to disagree with my initial "not as good as earlier CDs" statement. War Machine is a fantastic song. I can not wait until January 11th.

I'll be sure and give you a concert review in mid-Dec. If I can remember anything from that night.

Skies on Fire is nice too and I like Spoilin for a Fight as well.
No doubt, they front loaded the CD with the best stuff.
Hey, like I said, they do what they do. If we hadn't heard this stuff in format before, it would blow us away now. Still fun, though.
Metallica is just tired, man. I wasted my bucks on that one.

I agree with you there, but I bet they still put on a kick ass concert.

Metallica jumped the shark when Jason Newsted quit the band, they all cut their hair, and James Hetfield went through rehab.
Load and Re-load sounded like albums to finish a record deal and spit out anything just to end the contract. I loved the stuff with Cliff Burton, and Jason Newsted plays an awesome bass. I have just never liked their stuff since they lost Jason.
I am also looking forward to 1/11/09--the day AC/DC comes to rock the Nati. I expect to see MOR make the trip into town to see the show at the Bank.

Picked up the new AC/DC album yesterday and am downloading it to the iPod right now. I really like it. Fairly typical AC/DC stuff. Rock n Roll Train is a great opener and natural choice for the first single. I like Stormy May Day a lot. If the slide riff doesn't remind you of Led Zep's In My Time of Dying I don't know what will. She Likes Rock n Roll is a kick ass tune too. You gotta love AC/DC. All these years later and they still stick with what works.
Rock and Roll Dream is not anything I ever expected from AC/DC. Surprisingly I like it.
