CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati center John Riek, who suffered a knee injury last summer prior to the NBA Draft, will join the Bearcats following the fall quarter in December, head coach Mick Cronin announced today.
Riek, who escaped the war-ravaged Sudan as a teenager, comes to Cincinnati after exploding onto the basketball scene last summer at the LeBron James Skills Academy where he was named the event's top underclassman by recruiting analysts.
Following the camp, Riek spent the 2007-08 season at the Winchendon School, where his stock rose and he entered his name into the NBA Draft. Considered a potential lottery pick, Riek was named the No. 1 high school center in the country by Rivals.com and at one point was considered the top player available for the draft by Fox Sports' Jeff Goodman.
